Robert Gilbert Obituary

Robert "Bob" William Gilbert MT. PLEASANT - Robert "Bob" William Gilbert, 54, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Sallie DeWitt Johnston Scott passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 22, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Bob was born October 14, 1959 in Elkins, West Virginia, son of Frances Joan Heckel Gilbert and the late Donald Lee Gilbert. He loved spending time outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing and going to the mountains. Bob loved to read and listen to music, and was an accomplished artist. Above all, he loved his family, and enjoyed helping others. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Sallie DeWitt Johnston Scott; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Scott Gilbert of Mount Pleasant, SC; his mother, Frances Joan Heckel Gilbert of Elkins, WV; and his brothers, Donald Lloyd Gilbert and his wife, Wanda of Mount Pleasant, SC, Thomas Michael Gilbert of Mount Pleasant, SC, Edward Earl Gilbert and his wife, Susann of Greenville, SC, and James Francis Gilbert of Elkins, WV. He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Mary Gilbert. Bob is also survived by a large family, both in South Carolina and in West Virginia, of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob's memory to the Alzheimer's Association SC Chapter, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407 or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 300 West Coleman Boulevard, Suite 206, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
