Robert Foster Obituary

Robert Austin "Bob" Foster EDISTO ISLAND - Mr. Robert Austin "Bob" Foster, a former resident of Walterboro, and husband of Brailsford Lacey Foster, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was 82. Mr. Foster was born in Buena Vista, VA January 23, 1932, a son of the late Robert J. and Myrtle Catherine Foster. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and spent the next four years in service to his country. After completing his obligations, he enrolled at Arizona State University, where he played both baseball and football, and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Robert moved to Walterboro in 1965 as an employee of Besteel, a company of which he later became president. He was also a partner in Self Serve Inc. for the last thirty years. Robert attended the Trinity Episcopal Church at Edisto Island, and was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks. He loved the outdoors, playing golf, was a true sports enthusiast, and loved racing his thoroughbred horses. He was a wonderful husband and father and embraced every aspect of his life wholeheartedly. In addition to his wife Brailsford, and her son John Sutton, he is survived by his daughters, Shelley Foster O'Keefe (Brian) of Manhattan, NY and Lesley Foster Utsey of Walterboro. He has two sisters, Betty Goolsby of Buena Vista, VA and Carolyn Mottola on Pittsboro, NC. He has six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of his children, Suzanne T. Foster, and by a daughter, Lori Foster Holley. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Trinity Episcopal Church at Edisto Island, with committal following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 PM at the home of his daughter Lesley, 203 Greenbay Street, Walterboro, SC 29488. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street, Walterboro is in charge of arrangements. Brailsford, I am so saddened to just having learned of Bob's passing. Bob or "Bobby" and my dad called him, was one of my most favorite people in this world. I loved that man and will never forget his infectious smile and laugh. My heart go out to you and the rest of your family.
