Robert Dieter Obituary

Robert Lamar Dieter Mt. Pleasant - Robert Lamar Dieter, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, husband of Marian H. Dieter, entered into eternal rest on the morning of Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC on March 10, 1927, Mr. Dieter was the son of the late George H. Dieter and Caroline Lucas Dieter. Robert was a graduate of Davis High School and the University of South Carolina, class of 1951. Robert served his country honorably both as a veteran of World War II, and as an officer in the US Air Force. Mr. Dieter was president of Charleston Awning & Metal Company for many years. He was a member of the East Cooper Jaycees in the 1950's; a former member of the North Charleston Rotary Club; and an alumni of the Kappa Alpha fraternity (Rho Chapter) at the University of South Carolina. He was an active member of Christ Our King Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister for many years and as Parish Council President from 1984 to 1985. Mr. Dieter was a devoted husband of 69 years to his wife, the former Marian Harrison, who is also a native of Columbia. He was preceded in death by their eldest son, Robert L. Dieter, Jr., his son-in-law, Patrick J. McGregor, his brother, George H. Dieter, Jr., and his sister, Caroline D. Simons. He is survived by his son, David H. Dieter (Mary Ann) of Charleston and his daughter, Laura D. McGregor of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren: Margaret D. Barnes (Brandon) of Charleston; Madeline L. McGregor (Justin) of Charlotte, NC; and Patrick J. McGregor, Jr; Joseph R. McGregor; and Mark D. McGregor, all of Mt. Pleasant; and two great-granddaughters, Penelope R. Barnes and Genevieve M. Barnes, of Charleston. He is also survived by his brother, Jonathan L. Dieter, of Pawley's Island, and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service is planned at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, February 2 2021 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to East Cooper Meals on Wheels or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. To all of my Uncle Bobs family members. So very sorry to hear of his passing. He was indeed a good man and a devoted husband to Aunt Mernie. I´m sure he met up with Mom and Lette.
