Robert Coffman Obituary

Robert "Bob" Price Coffman DANIEL ISLAND - Robert "Bob" Price Coffman, 96, of Daniel Island, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023. His long life was a testament to his strong will and determination to stay active and independent. Born in Rockville, Maryland on November 24, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry Lewis Coffman, Sr., and Hazel Ranneberger Coffman. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Pemberton Coffman; his daughter, Lynn Otis, his son-in-law, James Otis, and his brother, Harry Lewis. He is survived by two daughters, Judy Lovelace (Sam) of Indian Beach, NC, and Robin Eichert (Pete) of Port Matilda, PA. Bob was a combat veteran in the US Navy during WW II, stationed in several locations from 1944-1946, including Okinawa. Golf was a passion that filled many of his days. As a youngster, he had caddied for Sam Snead, which started a lifetime love of the game. He played in statewide amateur tournaments in Virginia where he and Ruth lived for most of their lives before retiring to South Carolina. He earned many trophies over the years and his memory of every hole - played on any course - was legendary. Among his many accomplishments, he had five holes-in-one and at the age of 62 and scored a 74 on the famous St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland. When he wasn't playing golf, he enjoyed many other sports, but mostly wanted to be with or help his many friends. Lending a hand for others came naturally and he developed deep friendships with so many people that loved and cared for him deeply. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023, in the First United Methodist Church - Isle of Palms, 12 21st Avenue at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of things that were important to Bob-golf and church: HV3 Golf Foundation [aid to programs that allow youth to access golf] at 160 Cone Circle, Southern Pines, NC 28387 or First United Methodist Church, Isle of Palms, P.O. Box 807, Isle of Palms, SC 29451. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Bob, along with Ruth, were friends from Edisto. They were blessings to me. We shared times together there and enjoyed talking about golf (Bob) and traveling (Ruth). I´m grateful that they were a part of my life. Let´s cherish the memories of all the good times. God´s peace and comfort.
