Robert Burns Obituary

Robert Kirkland Burns, Jr. LEXINGTON, NC - Robert Kirkland Burns, Jr., of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his beloved hometown of Charleston, SC, on the early morning of July 11, 2023. Robert was born in Charleston on June 18,1939. He was the oldest son of the late Robert Kirkland Burns, Sr. and the late Eleanor Henrikson Burns. A private graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended Newberry College. He also served in the Army Reserve. He retired from the US Postal Service and then enjoyed time as a beach patrol officer at Edisto Beach, SC. He was a true Low Country boy, who was happiest on the ocean or in the creeks and rivers, fishing, crabbing and seining. He always said he had salt water running through his veins. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Marva Jordan Burns of Lexington, NC; daughters, Lori Burns Rutledge (Walter Parker), and Lisa Burns Green (Clark); one brother, William (Billy) Burns of Colonial Heights, Mi.; and grandchildren, Dolen Rutledge, Nathan Rutledge, Lawton Rutledge, Cole McKnight and Eliza McKnight. He was preceded in death by his brother, Marshal Burns and grandson, Logan Jennings Rutledge. Memorials maybe made to the Logan Rutledge Children's Foundation. 3496 Henrietta Hartford Rd.
