Rikkert Breunesse VLISSINGEN, ZEELAND, THE NETHERLANDS - Rikkert Breunesse of Vlissingen, Zeeland, The Netherlands, died peacefully on his 97th birthday, 28 August 2017, surrounded by family. He was a frequent visitor to Charleston where his two daughters reside; namely, Maria Breunesse Kay (Don) and Ineke Breunesse Brewer (Larry), both of Mt Pleasant. Also surviving are his son Theodore Breunesse (Heleen) of Beekbergen, NL; grandchildren, Samantha Kay Fishback (Rich); Brent Brewer; Sarah Brewer Verstraten (Florens), all of Mt Pleasant; Rick Breunesse (Karin) of South Lyon, MI; and Tamara Breunesse Ester (Iddo) of Holland; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gezina Bijkerk Breunesse in 1988; and grandson Donald Kay (Kirstin) of Charleston in 2008. Mr. Breunesse, as a private soldier in the Dutch army, was wounded in the invasion of Holland in 1940, but evaded capture as many young Dutchmen were sent to Germany as slave laborers. He became a successful businessman after the war. A service and burial took place in Zeist, Holland on Saturday, 2 September 2017. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
