Not a day goes by when I don't think of Rick. I hope the memories and visions of him I have here at my house as well as our many visits to Hospice never fade. I think what I will remember forever is the day Rick called me from Charleston to discuss his move to Florida. I could hear in his voice that day he was so nervous. I'll never forget how he sobbed when I told him "Yes" I would love to have him come live with us. That changed my life that day. But in such a good way. I opened up my home and my heart to Rick. He felt so lucky that day but I was really the lucky one. Rick and I had many long talks while he was here with me. Conversations I will always treasure. There are so many memories of him in my house. Even though Rick's last months here with us were not always the best health wise I feel so blessed to have had him close by. I will never forget my brother and look forwarding to seeing him again someday. I love you Rick. And yes, Rick did bring us together more than he will ever know. And we are so grateful to him for giving us Natalie...

Uncle Ricky was a great person. He made everyone he met laugh and you couldn't help but like him. He may have looked older, but he was still just a little kid at heart. Even during his final months he was playing jokes on the family and making us laugh. I don't think I have a memory of him that I wasn't laughing either at or with him!

When I was in Florida with the family, he told me how excited he was to see everyone together. Because he is Uncle Ricky and he doesn't hold anything back, he actually said, "So all I had to do was get the "Big C" to get you guys to come see me?" Uncle Ricky brought us all together and that made him really happy. We shouldn't let the death of another aunt, uncle, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, or sister bring us together. We should try to see each other more often. I know that I remember and love each moment I spent with Uncle Ricky but there were only a handfull of these memories to have.

He was a funny, light hearted, energetic Uncle and I'll always think of him around Thanksgiving (one year he forgot to turn the oven on with the turkey in it so it just sat there for 4 hours) and when I make scrambled eggs (I told him I won an egg cooking contest at the Brockton Fair and he actually believed me!).

For living such a short life, he made a huge impact on all of us. I'll miss him alot...

Natalie, if you ever need anything, you know I am here for you. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it down there. Stay strong and just remember you have a huge family who will do anything you need. All you have to do is ask.

To my dear sweet Natalie and all of us Martin's who will miss Rick so much, remember, "Life is measured in moments, not in days". We had some great moments and we will have many more and Rick will always be with us in our hearts. While these past months have been the saddest months they have also been the greatest months. We are so thankful for Rick for bringing us all together, a family united!!!! It just reminds you what it important in life. FAMILY!!!! I will never forget Rick and his great spirit and sense of humor. He made me laugh in the face of adversity, that's just who Rick is. I don't think there is any one who has met him that could ever forget him. You just don't forget someone like him.
Forever in my heart!!!!!!
Love,
Lynn

We are all going to miss him greatly.
Natalie you know he kept everyone laughing till the very end with his sense of humor. No matter what was going on or how much pain he was in he always found time to say something that would make us laugh. And through this all his top priority was not himself but you and my mom that you two would be ok thats the only thing in life that he cared about at that moment. We all promised we would watch out for you.So you need anything were only a phone call away.
Love Aunt Lori

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
