We met Dick when he was working in CT after retirement from the Navy. Dick was a guest at my wedding back in NJ in the 1980's. He was always a fine gentleman when we were in contact with him. Back in 1996, my husband Jim and I were driving our three little girls, all in diapers, to NJ for a family party. We stopped in CT to have a quick lunch with Dick. Dick happened to snap a candid, gorgeous picture of all of five of us which I have framed by my bedside. I look at it every night before going to bed. Dick, thank you for being a family friend. Dear Elizabeth, family and friends of Dick,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Dick´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Baltimore CA-68, USS Atule SS-403, USS Pickerel SS-524, USS Patrick Henry SSBN-599, USS Benjamin Franklin SSBN-640, and as Commanding Officer of USS James Monroe SSBN-622.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
