My family and I knew Richard personally, and we always loved his sense of humor about all things. I then knew him professionally. There is no doubt that his passing has affected all of us, as his spirit always flew with the eagles that dare. I know he is in a much better place and I know that he will never be forgotten. God, hold him in your arms.

When I think of Richard, I remember his laugh, his big smile, and the twinkle in his eyes. For those of you who grieve I hope time eases your pain and that in the future you'll look back with smiles not tears.

Sadly, I just learned this news yesterday. I would have been at the service had I known about his passing. He helped me with the purchase of our first home in 1975 and was kind enough to do this gratis as I was coming to Charleston as a young and broke Public Defender. He was a gracious and fun loving soul, and he will be sorely missed by those of us whose lives he touched.

I will miss Richard most at the courthouse because every time I saw him he made me smile. He always had a kind word for me that brightened my day. The hallway at Family Court will be darker without him.
