Richard "Dick" King MT. PLEASANT - Richard "Dick" King left this life and entered into rest on July 17, 2010, in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Richard was born on Sept. 3, 1927, in Monticello, NY, the sixth of seven children born to Alice Murran King and Joseph King. He is predeceased by his brothers James, Joseph and Thomas and by his sisters Helen, Eleanor and Mary. The old guard has passed. Dick was a graduate of Monticello High School, Class of 1944 and enlisted in the Army. He served as an Army medic in Fairbanks, Alaska. After discharge he attended Ryder College. Dick met the love of his life, Maureen Beale in 1947. They were married on Sept. 9, 1950, beginning a relationship that endured and thrived for more than 60 years. Dick began a successful sales career at the legendary F. W. Woolworth in upstate NY, after which he had a thirty-year career at Newell/Rubbermaid where he served as regional sales manager for the northeast, relocating with his family to Long Branch, NJ in 1964. He loved every interaction with people, as well as the challenge of sales. Dick and Maureen relocated to South Carolina in 1996. He served as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 9475 and achieved the rank of fourth degree. He coordinated the Mt. Pleasant Men's Coffee Club, and initiated and headed the monthly speaker program for the Senior Ministry at Christ Our King Catholic Church, as well as founding his own book club. He volunteered regularly at the Catholic Charities Soup Kitchen, as well as being active with fund raising efforts for the Knights of Columbus. He was nominated for the Jefferson Award in 2008 for his service to the community. Dick also employed his sales know how and great personality as a demo professional in his leisure time. Dick was a proud Irishman with a quick wit and great sense of humor that made him the life of any party. His warmth and empathy enabled him to reach out and touch many lives. He is survived by his beloved wife Maureen and four daughters, Kathleen (Susumu) of San Francisco, CA, Maureen of Mt. Pleasant, Meghan (Cristobal) of Madrid, Spain and Kerry Francis (Neal) of Brick, NJ, and two grandsons Cristobal and Kevin of Madrid. A visitation will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC on Friday, July 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive, Mt.
