Richard Jenderny Obituary

JENDERNY, Richard Richard Rick H. Jenderny, 60, husband of Donna Werz Jenderny of Mount Pleasant, SC, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. The relatives and friends of Rick Jenderny are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Friday, June 13, 2008 at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Rick was born on November 21, 1947 in Park Falls, Wisconsin, the oldest of four boys born to the late Zora Mesich Jenderny and the late Harvey Jenderny. Rick graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1969, and joined the United States Navy where he was a fighter pilot and attended Top Gun. After leaving active duty, he became an Air Traffic Controller working at Minneapolis Center until the controllers' strike in 1981. The Naval Reserve then played an active role in his life and he was attached to a P3 Squadron (VP-90) and then CINCPACFLT. While in the Reserves, Rick was hired by UNISYS/Lockheed Martin, where he was made Program Manager of Micro-EARTS, an air traffic control system. In his copious spare time he ran an 80-acre farm where he raised sheep, hay, horses, dogs and cats. In 1997 he was transferred by Lockheed Martin from Eagan, MN to Gaithersburg, MD, where he was discovered and hired by ARINC, Inc of Annapolis, MD in June 1999. Rick was given the opportunity to head the ARINC office in Charleston, SC in 2001 which he considered his greatest career accomplishment. He always put everyone else's concerns above his own. As his friends and co-workers will tell you, once Rick put his mind to something, he would not rest until he accomplished his goal. Rick was an extremely caring husband, and father. Some of Rick's favorite times were spent traveling and golfing with Donna and Sara, especially the Mediterranean cruise taken to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary and Sara's high school graduation taken only 3 months after he had survived a quadruple heart bypass. His greatest source of pride and joy could be found in the accomplishments of his girls. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Donna Jenderny of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughters, Sara Jenderny of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Anne Forcier and her husband, John, of Olathe, KS; and grandchildren, Beth Forcier and Thomas Forcier of Olathe, KS; brothers, William Jenderny, Lawrence Jenderny and Kenneth Jenderny, all of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Jenderny. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406 or Hospice of Charleston, Hospice Center Fund, 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405. To the Family of Rich... I was saddened to hear via another classmate of Rich's death. Rich and I graduated high school in the same class at New Richmond High School, where my husband was also Rich's English teacher and drama director. I have many memories of years together in school classes, activities and participation in school plays -- most notably "Teahouse of the August Moon". I was happy to be able to correspond with him in January via e-mail.

Our sincere sympathy to all of the Jenderny family.

Rick was a great boss, friend and a fighter till the end. He will always be in our thoughts and prayers. We will always remember the fun we had together especially flying to the Clemson/ FSU basketball game. During a lifetime we meet many people but only a few stay in our hearts forever. We love you.

I had the pleasure of working with Rick on a proposal at ARINC in Annapolis. Rick was a joy to work with, even during the hectic, long hours of proposals and demonstrations. The world will not be as bright now that he is gone. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Although only knowing Rick for a short time, it soon became evident by the people he hired and watched over, and the response from his Customers that he was truly a Man that was respected and admired. What an honor to have known him.

To the Jenderny family,

Rick was not only a colleague, but a true friend. The fondest memory I'll have of Rick is when we first met and realized that we shared WI as our "1st home". Many stories were shared after that as he would greet me with Ya Hey! Farewell my friend...you taught me more about life than words can say and you'll long be remembered in the hearts and lives of all you touched. I'm so grateful you touched mine.

My sincerest sympathy to Rick's family. You were truly blessed.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Rick to your family. He was far too young to die. We greatly enjoyed working with him at ARINC -- such a talented manager, a gentleman and we appreciated his excellent sense of humor.
