I want to extend to all of you my heartfelt condolences for the passing of Mr. "Billy" Hughes. I have known him since 1978 when I played baseball for The Citadel. He was one of our best fans and was always there to give support to all of us on the team. He was such a mentor to all of us student athletes and I have many memories of him then. As I grew older we remained friends with him as a Citadel fan. I came to know Richie and Rusty through their Dad and had the privilege of coaching Maria in softball. I will pray for your comfort and peace at this time and know that you will miss him greatly but know he touched many lives in a positive way.

Carolyn, I was saddened to hear of Billy's passing. What a gentleman he was to Maria and I personally and what a great guy in general. He will be missed by many and of course mostly by you. As you know I lost Maria last year and I'm still grieving but my objective now is to not morn her loss but celebrate her memory. It's going to take time for the pain to subside. Praying for you and your family. Go Bulldogs!!

I will never Forget the first time that I met Big Poppi when I became a part of this family. He treated me and loved me like I was one of his own grandchildren. He had the kind of personality that you could never forget. His soul shined through the sparkle in his eye. He was a straight up, no nonsense kind of guy. I will forever miss Big Poppi. I love you Nunu and EVERYONE else. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of one of the best families that I know.

What a tremendous person who loved life and people. Billy and Carolyn have always been special to my family ( Flora P. & Dick Condon) and me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our heart wouldn't hurt so much if we didn't love him so much! The laughter, words, caring and kindness Billy showed to anyone he came in contact with is what made him the special man we got to call our friend. We'll forever treasure the memories of friendship. We will always miss Billy Hughes. When you think about personalities he had the biggest. No matter what story he would tell it would always be funny. I only saw Billy once many years after we had graduated from Chicora High School, Class of 1957. I'll never the memory and how good he made my feel.His mark while on this world made us, his family, the Citadel and Chicora proud.

When I heard Billy was gone I was deeply saddened but almost immeadiately all the good memories flooded my senses and overwhelmed the sadness. I know how terrible it is to lose him but those good memories will never be lost

Carolyn and family, Billy was always open and loving toward me. He called me "Blackie" and that made me feel that somehow I was special to him. There is no doubt in my mind that he'd give me a big hug right now even though I haven't seen him in years. Billy made me feel good every time I saw him. It was a gift he gave others. There aren't words enough to say how much we, the Class of 1961, will miss Billy. He was tireless in his unselfish efforts with the reunions. His laughter and good humor cannot be replaced. I knew Billy through a mutual friend josh baker. He was a good man and I know he will be greatly missed. He did some work for me and my dad at SAS shoes. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
