Richard Hood Obituary

Richard Scott Hood CHARLESTON - Richard Scott Hood, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Nancy Henderson Hood, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family on Monday, January 29, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 2, 2024, in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Interment to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Scott was born November 16, 1947, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late James Albert Hood and Ruth Henderson Hood Smith. Scott attended St. Andrew's School in Sewanee, TN, and the University of Texas. He was a prominent Certified Public Accountant in Charleston with a career spanning over 50 years. Scott was passionate about his work, enjoying the intricacies of advising clients on their taxes and financial decisions. Scott was a member of the American Institute of CPA's and the South Carolina Association of CPA's. He was an avid golfer, loving the comradery and the banter with friends and family on the greens around Charleston and at the Burlingame Country Club in North Carolina. For many years, Scott organized weekly golf pairings for his friends at the Country Club of Charleston, introducing many to the love of the game. He was also a member of St. Philip's Church, the Carolina Yacht Club, and the Hibernian Society. Scott loved to travel and did so often with his family. He lived with humor and a positive outlook which undoubtedly helped in his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer over the past two years. Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Nancy; two daughters: Nancy Hood Egleston (DuBose) of Charleston, SC, and Jennifer Hood Emerson (Ryan) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six grandchildren: David DuBose Egleston III, Mills Faxon Egleston, Llewellyn Hood Egleston, Robert Smith Emerson, Scott Theodore Emerson and Frances Ryan Emerson; and his two brothers: James Albert Hood, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Robert Holmes Hood (Bernie) of Charleston, SC. He was predeceased by his parents; his step-father, Fred Harden Smith; and his sister, Llewellyn Hood Kassebaum. Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or to the Porter-Gaud School, 300 Albemarle Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
