Randy, Marc, and Logan,
I am sorry for your loss. My last memory of seeing Richard in person is when we were in the same class at Plainedge Elementary School, then a 2-room building taking students up to only 5th grade. Richard and I were close friends, and I recall feeling a great sense of loss by his departure to accompany his family and father who was doing military service in post-WW2 Japan. After Richard returned to the Plainedge System, which by then had added schools for upper grades, I read from a distance about his accomplishments as a high school basketball star. (After moving just a few blocks outside the district boundary during his absence, I attended Farmingdale JHS and HS). I just learned from Ms. Downen's letter that Richard played duplicate bridge, and wonder whether we also had other interests in common, such as math, science, nature, and astronomy, and think about how my life might have been enriched if I remained in the Plainedge district and had a longer friendship with Richard.

Richard was so kind to me at the Bridge Center. He had some good suggestions for me as I learned how to play and gave me encouragement. His passing is a great loss to all who knew him. I'm so sorry for his family.
