Flora,
I have been out of town and just learned of Dick's passing. I am so sorry and you and the family have my deepest sympathy. I have so many fond memories of Dick over the years. From politics to his work at Patriots Point, he never lost his sense of humor and optimism. You were his strength in life and I know how much he loved you and how much you loved him. I pray you will find some solace in knowing that his many friends will share your grief in remembering him forever.
Sincerely,
Dewey Wise

Dear Flora: My heart was very saddened when I read today that Dick had died. You are a might lucky lady to have married such a loving, kind and gentle-man. I have known Dick since I was a "young girl". He had spent many times over at Fenwick as did so many of my older brothers' friends. My heart and deepest sympathy go out to you and your family during this trying time. May our dear Lord hold you gently in the palm of His hands. Lovingly, Helena McKay-Vivona

Dear Flora,
It was with a great sense of loss that I read of Dick’s passing. I have great memories of him as Dick and as Father Condon from days at the Cathedral School and Bishop England. He help me on numerous occasions when I was a kid - a new pair of football cleats, a couple of dollars when he I was broke the kids were heading to the Holly House after a game. He kept an eye on me and helped me stay out of trouble.
I am sorry for your loss, for our loss and please know that you are in our thoughts and our prayers. Below is a little verse that has always given me comfort. God Bless,
Larry Wertan
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her
white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean. She
is an object of beauty and
strength. I stand and watch her
until at length she hangs like a
speck of white cloud just where
the sea and sky come to mingle
with each other.
Then someone at my side says:
"There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That Is all.
She is just as large in mast and
hull and spar as she was when
she left my side and she is just as
able to bear her load of living
freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in
her. And just at the moment when
someone at my side says: "There,
she is gone!",
There are other eyes watching her
coming, and other voices ready to
take up the glad shout: "Here she
comes!
And that is dying. ~~ Henry Van Dyke

Flora,
It was my GREAT fortune to work with Dick @ Patriots Point in the overnight camping program and to learn from him all of the small details that the scheduling and booking of groups demands. He was a true mentor to me and to Alice, but more than what he taught us in a professional sense, his gentle humor and kindness are qualties that were the most important, and qualties I hope I am always able to emulate. I am deeply saddened by his passing, but I cherish the memories I have working with him for so many years. His kind are so rare, and we were blessed to have him here with us and to enjoy our relationships with him. He may be gone, but he will not ever be forgotten. May God's peace be with you.

Flora and all.. My heart breaks as this world has lost a truly kind and gentle soul. So many wonderful memories of Dick come to mind from my early childhood on through. Know that my heart and prayers are with you all. I hope to see you soon. I know its has been a difficult road you have been through over the past few years. Hang on to the happy days and be at peace that Dick is no longer suffering but where he so rightly belongs. Much Love

Flora P.,
Diana and I will forever be thankful for "Captain Dick" marrying us at the BEHS 35th class reunion. Dick was an admired and repected friend and teammate - 1944 to 1948. We celebrate Dick's full and productive life. Certainly his mansion in Heaven will be a big one and even though we all will deeply miss him, we know that he is now in the hands of our Lord. God Bless Us All.
