Richard Ceips Obituary

CEIPS, Richard Richard Norman Ceips, MD, 54, of Beaufort, SC, a prominent ophthalmologist and owner of Sea Island Ophthalmology, died Thursday in a Charleston hospital. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2006, in the St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaufort. Interment will follow at 6:30 PM in the Thornley Cemetery, Moncks Corner. Friends may call at Dr. Ceips' residence, 1207 Bay Street, Beaufort, SC, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM this Saturday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Storm Eye Institute, MUSC Foundation, PO Box 250450, Charleston, SC 29425. Directed by DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Dr. Ceips was born Sept. 21, 1951, in Phoenix, AZ, a son of Dr. Imants Ceips and Sigrid Neimans Ceips. He received his BS in Biology from the University of SC and his medical degree from the Medical University of SC. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and numerous medical organizations. Dr. Ceips was an accomplished pianist and an avid reader. He enjoyed history archeology, and politics. Surviving are, his wife, The Honorable Catherine Crawford Ceips, SC House of Representatives; two sisters, Roberta Burkhart of Martinez, GA, and Margaret Ceips of Hendersonville, TN; three brothers, Melvin Ceips of Tyler Town, MS, Imants Ceips of Beaufort, and Arnold Ceips of Charleston; his mother-in-law, Virginia Black Crawford of Moncks Corner; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kelley and Lisa Crawford of Moncks Corner and Dr. Michael and Debra Crawford of Ogden, Utah.
