Richard Burr Obituary

Richard Martin Burr, 66, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on July 29, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Richard lived a life marked by devotion, brilliance, and a heart full of humor and kindness. Born on July 1, 1959, Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before continuing his career as an aeronautical engineer on the C-17 with Boeing, serving as support on campaigns such as Operations Enduring Freedom and Desert Shield. His intelligence and dedication were evident in everything he pursued from his work to the stories he loved to tell. Richard had a passion for fishing, football, woodworking, and music. A lifelong Washington Redskins fan, he rarely missed a game and never missed a chance to spend time on the lake or enjoy the company of his close-knit group of friends. He had a passion for creating and crafting things with his hands, and could fix anything, make something out of nothing, and always found a way to make things work. He was a man who never met a stranger-always ready with a story, a laugh, or a helping hand. The most important thing to him in life was his family, and he treasured, loved, and supported them through everything. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin M. Burr and Mary Barbara Burr, of Buckhannon, WV. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Burr; his daughters, Pamela Ruppert (Shane) and Sarah Phillips (Vernon Christopher); his son, Daniel Burr; and his cherished grandchildren, Malcolm and Rosalynn. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Cox (Jim Cox), and brother, Jimbo Burr (Sunnie Burr), along with their families. His presence in their lives was a gift beyond measure. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place immediately afterward at Dorchester Memory Gardens. Richard will be deeply missed, but his stories, laughter, and love will live on in all who knew him.
