Richard Breunig Obituary

Richard P. Breunig TAMPA, FL - Richard P. Breunig left this life on January 21, 2017, to rest with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; "the prize of God's upward calling" (Phil 2:14 NABRE), while under the care of his loving sister Mary Pyra at Mary's home in Tampa, FL. Richard was born on February 19, 1959 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma to Joseph and Mary Breunig. All who knew Richard remember his integrity and faithfulness, rejoicing in the experience of being part of his life. Richard marked his construction career with uncommon quality and reliability. The endurance and camaraderie he contributed to his running passion will be long remembered by fellow runners. Richard and his family were blessed by the dedicated friends and medical personnel who held his hand through the battle against the ailment that brought him to the end of this life. The family expresses gratitude for the care provided by Moffitt Cancer Center and LifePath Hospice of Tampa, FL. Richard leaves behind siblings who were blessed with a steadfast companion in the long journey of a military family through many towns and schools: Mary Pyra (Rich) of Tampa, FL, Kathleen Breunig of Johns Island, SC, and Michael Breunig (Sherri) of Tucker, GA. Richard is also survived by two beloved nieces, Annah and Heather Pyra of Tampa, FL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Johns Island, SC on February 16 at 11:00 AM, followed by internment at the church. Service participants will be invited to a celebration of Richard's life following the service. Those interested in donating in Richard's memory are asked to contribute to LifePath Hospice - 3010 W Azeele St., Tampa, FL, 33609. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

We also met Richard on Seabrook Island when we chose him to build our house 10 years ago. I think it was his first house done on his own and he did a magnificent job. He practically built it by himself. He was honest, conscientious and incredibly hard-working. He came back to help us on so many occasions and we always enjoyed seeing him driving his old white "war wagon" around the island. We will miss seeing him but will always think of him fondly whenever we open the door to our Seabrook home. RIP Richard.

We met Richard when we were renovating our home on Seabrook Island 6 years ago. He came highly recommended and we loved working with him - he did most of the work himself and was incredibly conscientious. Our home is a wonderful place today in large part because of him. He was very easy-going and was just a very good-hearted soul. We talked running quite a bit, and I could see him coming a mile away one day when I was running to the Citadel! He joined our family one Thanksgiving for a nice, laid-back evening. We miss him and think of him often.

Richard was such a wonderful example to so many of us- he was loyal to friends and family- was hard working and wise and so considerate of everyone. He always wanted to be around his friends (early Sat runs, breakfast at The Marina, hanging out at the farmers market, Sun afternoons at Dunleavy's) and just seemed to make time for everyone. I agree with George who said 'they don't come nicer than Richard'. God Bless you Richard and thank you for sprinkling your kindness on us all!

Richard was a great guy. He always picked up my spirits when we spoke. His running was an inspiration to an old plodder like myself! All of us left behind are going to miss him.

Richard was a great friend and a great listener. I know he is in a greater place now but will be greatly missed by all his friends. I will remember him sitting at Colonial Lake waiting for me many times.

Richard was a great guy, and I consider myself fortunate to call him "friend". I shall miss his long lopey run, which you couldn't mistake when you saw him running. I will also miss his smile and great fellowship at running events and friends' birthday parties. So raise a toast to Richard! In my heart I know that he's better off now and in a much better place.
