Richard Benward Obituary

Richard J. Benward MONCKS CORNER - Richard J. Benward, 73, of Moncks Corner, widower of Theresa A. Benward, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Trident Health System. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 10 o'clock until hour of service at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 11 o'clock AM. Inurnment will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner. Mr. Benward was born March 1, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY, son of the late Clifford Benward and Amy Fitch Benward. Mr. Benward loved music, drawing, bowling and fishing. He was a Master Carpenter but most of all he loved the Bible and his family. He also was a drum corps instructor who took children off of the streets to teach them and hopefully keep them off of the streets. He served in the United States Navy for four years and retired from Hudson River Psychiatric Center after thirty -seven years serving as Superintendent of the Work Control. Survivors include four daughters and one son: Regan Benward of Highland, NY, Toni Benward, of Goose Creek, Margaret Benward of Moncks Corner, Louise Benward of Moncks Corner and Sean Benward of San Francisco, CA, five grandchildren: Wyatt Benward Bowers, Cyerra Slade, Cole Matthews, Ira Benward and Taiki Benward and two sisters; Margaret Benward and Mary Benward, numerous nieces and nephews and other family members in Kansas City, KS. Richard was one of my classmates in the Class of 1958 at F. D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY. I haven't seen him in a long time, and I appreciated reading his obituary about his life through the years. With my sympathy to his family. May he now rest in peace!
