Richard Bartell Obituary

BARTELL, Richard Richard Emanuel Bartell, of Cocoa Beach, Florida died February 8, 2006. The relatives and friends of Richard Emanuel Bartell are invited to attend his funeral service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 4:30 o'clock. Friends may call at STUHR'S MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bartell was born August 14, 1923 in York, PA, son of the late Charles Walter Bartell and Effie Wehler Bartell. He was very athletic and lettered in baseball, wrestling, basketball and track at North York High School. He was drafted into professional baseball by the St. Louis Browns but chose to enlist in the US Army and served in World War II on the Pacific Front. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and worked for Martin-Marrietta from 1953 until 1961 and worked as Naval Weapons Inspector for Vitro Laboratories from 1962 until 1980. Dick was also a member of the Charleston Rifle Club. He always remained active in athletics, bowling, golfing and softball and loved all animals. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Surviving is three sons, Richard E. Bartell and his wife, Shannon Bartell of Cocoa Beach, FL, Thomas C. Bartell of Scottsdale, AZ and Charles W. Bartell of Charleston, SC; his daughter, Lisa Bartell Trott and her husband, Cambridge M. Trott, IV, of Mount Pleasant, SC; one sister, Anna May Haller of York, PA; four grandchildren, Jennifer Bartell of Florida, Bryenne Trott, Madeleine Trott and Chase Bartell, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Palmetto Chapter, 1941 Savage Road, Suite 400-D, Charleston, SC 29407.
