Richard Ard Obituary

ARD, SR., Richard OLANTA Richard Lee Ard, Sr., 75, husband of Gladys W. Yates Ard of Olanta, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Born January 6, 1933, in St. Paul, SC, he was a son of the late John Henry Ard, Sr. and the late Mary Mamie Pack Ard. He was first married to the late Louise Dukes Ard. He was a former supervisor at Albany International in St. Stephen, and a member of Frierson's Tabernacle near Lake City. Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth A. Betty Lou Whaley (Curtis) of Lake City, Sue Whaley (David) of Olanta, and Ruth A. Fogle (Jackie) of Neeses; three sons, Richard Lee Ard, Jr. (Patty), John Wesley Johnny Ard (Emma), both of Greeleyville, and Thomas Michael Ard (Myra) of Denver, NC; two sisters, Virginia Goodman (Bob) of Chattanooga, TN, and Jo Ann King (Roger) of Bishopville; two brothers, Emmett Ard (Virginia) of Greeleyville, and John Henry Ard, Jr. of Terrell, NC; two stepdaughters, Jeanette Frierson (Jack) of Olanta, and Sheryl McKenzie (Earl) of Rock Hill; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Franklin Frankie Ard; two brothers, Clyde W. Ard and Leonard Ard; and a sister, Lureane Douglas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Larry Melton and the Rev. Freddie Gaymon officiating. Burial will follow in the Little White Church Cemetery in Greeleyville. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the home of Johnny Ard, 2860 Manning Hwy., Greeleyville. To Mr. Richards family,
I was glad to have the honor of meeting Mr. Richard. He was a very humble and caring man. One thing I found out fast was he loved Mrs. Gladys and he loved his children. He will greatly be missed.
