He was born on March 5, 1950 in Greenville, SC to Rhonald Hodges Baggott Jr. and Margaret Ann Presnell. He was well known in their hometown of James Island, SC as the captain of the 1968 state football championship team. Tykie married Mitzy Bayne Baggott on January 29, 1972 and they celebrated 48 years together. He started his career serving 2 years in the Air Force. He then went on to give 36 years of Federal Service working at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and Tinker Air Force Base until he retired in 2007. He was honored with Supervisor of the Year at Tinker AFB. Tykie will always be remembered for his kind and soft-hearted soul, his love for his family, and cheering on the OSU Cowboys. He fought cancer without a complaint. May he now rest in peace. I remember Ronnie from JIHS and from his days as a Supervisor in Shop 17 - Ronnie trained expert craftsmen in X-17 and I had the privilege of working with them on a few nuclear projects. He was smart, kind and wise.

Mitzy and Family, I am so saddened by the loss we all feel right now. Tykie was the big guy to many. He will be remembered as the Captain of the State Championship team (against Woodruff), but also as a wonderful person willing to do what was needed - go the extra mile, give the extra time, and greet with a great smile.

There are so few great men who can be called “Friend” by so many. Part of his greatness was his ability to be a fair General Forman who not only cared about good work skills but cared about the worker, as he did for me in 1992 when I had a severe hand injury. I am grateful that at one of our luncheons that I was able to tell him that his belief in me at that time got me through the entire situation. I will also cherish the memory of our conversation over steaks with Mitzy and my wife, Linda, a few years ago in a little cowboy town called Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was a special time to connect with someone that I will forever call “Friend”.
Prayers to Mitzy, the children and family, and to all of Ronnie’s friends who are feeling very empty now.

Dear Mitzy and family,
My prayers go out to you and your family. May God give you Peace and Comfort as you mourn the passing of your husband and beloved father. My memories are still vivid following the State Championship game in Spartanburg in 1968 when Tykie and others threw me in the pool at the motel after the game as we celebrated together. Though I was not a daily coach at that time, I did spot from the press box and met with the team to give scouting reports during the season. He was a great leader and excellent player. I also was pleased to bowl with the two of you for a season in Goose Creek in the mid-80's. That provided a different, but pleasurable, insight of friendship. COVID19 was not so pervasive but at 83 it is a clear and present danger. Otherwise, I could have personally honored his memory and all of you.
I will also be sending a memorial donation, as you requested, to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.

A good friend. When I received this news today, it felt as if someone in my close family passed away. We shared years at the shipyard and also shared Summerville and James Island football games. I never could convince Tykie that Summerville that I played on was the better team!! He has found peace. I am so glad for him and the family, may God be with you today and for the many days that that come. I will miss him.

I worked with Rhoald and as his Forman when he was General Forman in the Nuclear Section of Shop 17, CNSD. This comes as shock to me! He will be missed and was a very good friend, my condolences to friends and family, RIP.
