Mrs. Rhoda Brown Wright touched the lives of many far and near; her presence on this earth will be deeply missed. To her family and friends, please accept my sincere condolences. She was my father, Adolf Melvin, aka “AD” Elliott's cherished cousin; he spoke of her lovingly throughout my life. My dad would routinely make his way from Detroit to Charleston, golf clubs in hand, to enjoy the city he loved, visit with Rhoda, her siblings Ruby, Pauline, Thelma and Julia as well as Evangeline, aka, Vangie Haynes, his other favorite cousin. He cherished those visits, and overtime I came to cherish the people that meant so much to him.
I will always be grateful for having the opportunity to visit with Rhoda last year, to break bread, hear and share stories, pictures and become more directly connected to my dad's family and now my family in Charleston. During telephone chats, since that visit, Rhoda always reminded me of how much my dad wanted me to know her family, to know those stories and be connected. It's on me that telephone contact with her immediately family members, while always gracious and welcoming, was infrequent. My belated, “seasons greetings/happy new year “, letter with a few pictures of my dad, and me with Rhoda, was ready to put in the mail when, I got the call yesterday of her passing. A cousin from Charlotte, NC said she had not been reading the Charleston obituary pages for sometime, had the urge to check, saw the listing of Rhoda's passing and immediately called me in Jamaica Plain, MA, (a neighborhood in Boston). I guess Rhoda wanted me to know, to be able to reach out, connect and share the ways she touched my dad's life and mine; she was insistent that I come back to visit the family in Charleston someday, I will honor her desire as soon as I can.

To Reuben,
You have my heartfelt sympathy. I worked with your mother at Mitchell Elementary. She was a wonderful mentor who shared her wisdom and knowledge.
May you find comfort in knowing that as a Christian, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".
May God's blessings be upon you and your family.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF RHODA B. WRIGHT
Somehow we are never prepared for this process; even though, we know it is a part of the MASTER's plan. Our hearts were sadden by the news of the passing of our beloved Rhoda and we pray that each of us will find comfort in the many pleasant memories that we shared.
We shall always cherish her unique personality... her humor, laughter and great advice that she willingly shared.
May you find comfort in knowing that many others share your loss.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Leroy and Johnnie Major

To Reuben and Family:
I am deeply sadden to hear of the passing of your mother, my elementary school teacher, and proudly to say, a good friend. It was always a privilege to converse with Mrs. wright, and anyone who knew her, know she was a great conversationalist; you didn't just say hello and get away from her; she always wanted to know how you were doing, and what you were doing. I thank God for teachers like Mrs. Wright because they not only taught us, but they nurtured and molded us to be young men and women; she would always let you know how proud of you she was. "Servant of God, well done! rest from thy love employ; the battle's fought, the victr'y's won, enter Thy master's joy."

To the Wright and Sumpter Families,
We light this candle In Memory of Rhoda. A beautiful person, an excellent teacher, a caring leader (Mt. Zion AME) and a great sense of humor. Please don't get on the phone with her unless you had about 3 hours to spare.:-) She will truly be missed by everyone who crossed her path. May God's Blessing shine upon each and everyone of you during this difficult time.

We say to the family, continue to hold on, keep the faith, knowing that there is no pain that Jesus can't feel, no hurt that he cannot heal, for all things work according to the master's plan and his prefect will, so continue to stay strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, for the battle is not yours it's the Lord's.

I have known Mrs. Rhoda (mama) since 2000. I work with her son Reuben and have had several occasions to meet and visit with her. She and I were "like spirits" - we shared the same concerns and had some of the same "integrity issues'. I loved her and appreciated her wit and intelligence. She was such a bright and shining star with her humor and fun spirit. I will forever miss her. Love and comfort and blessings to the family. Ginger

GOD IS SO GOOD. It was a pleasure to enjoy a fun full day at the movies and to dine with my buddy here on last month. What a wonderful person. She was funny, loving, honest and so real. I truly will miss my buddy Rhoda. May God Grant her soul a resting place in His Kingdom. Family you have done good by Rhoda and she was very happy to have you all around her.

To Mrs. Sumpter.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. Your Mt. Zion Family.

Pastors Reuben and Betty,
Our prayers are with you at this time. I am remembering when your Mom was teaching at Julian Mitchell Elem. and I didn't want the other teachers to know she was my aunt, well they knew and when I got into trouble, they took me straight to her. She was a very important person in my life and I will truly miss her.
