Renee Upp-Kajdasz Obituary

Rene;e Upp-Kajdasz N. CHARLESTON - Rene;e Upp-Kajdasz, 48, of North Charleston, died at home Monday after her struggle with breast cancer. She was born to Jerry and Marcie M. Upp, July 10th 1964, in Livonia, Michigan. Rene;e grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from Putnam City North High School in 1983. Rene;e excelled in school. She continued her education and received a BA in 1987 and a Masters in Social Work from University of Oklahoma in 1990. Rene;e married Stan Kajdasz in August 1996, and they have lived together and raised their family in North Charleston, South Carolina. Rene;e was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Upp. She is survived by her husband, Stan Kajdasz and children, Rhiannon Renee and Matthew Righton, as well as her mother, Marcie Upp of Oklahoma City, brother Dan of Oklahoma City, brother Raymond of Norman, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews, and best friends Lisa Boor of Wichita, Kansas and Pam Ingram of Charleston, SC. Rene;e's enthusiasm for her work as a pediatric social worker (initially at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City, then at the Children's Hospital with the Medical University of South Carolina) was only surpassed by her profound love for her family. She delighted in any activities that encouraged time with her family. Rene;e is well known for her determination, and boundless ability to connect and council others. Whether it was family, coworkers, neighbors or strangers in a check-out line, she could listen and provide meaningful insight. Rene;e was a kind soul who will be missed tremendously. Rene;e found great comfort in her faith and was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. During her courageous battle with cancer, she drew immense inspiration and strength from a community of supporters that included new & old friends, co-workers, neighbors and family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made out to Bethany United Methodist Church for donations toward college tuition for her children (118 W 3rd Street, Summerville, SC 29483, earmarked for Kajdasz family college fund). A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, June 7, 2013 from 10:00 until 11:00 with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 West 3rd Street, Summerville. I had the pleasure of running into Renee in North Charleston just a year or two ago with her adorable daughter and son. We were both so surprised to see each other. She had not changed at all since high school!! Renee was such a sweet person, I had a lot of fun sitting next to Renee in band in school and in other classes. Our high school is about to have its reunion and everyone was so sad to hear about Renee's passing. Very best wishes to all of Renee's family, with deepest sympathy.

Stan,

Doug and I live in Germany now but we were so very sad to read about Renee. It's hard to believe it's been over 12 years since we met both you and Renee but the common bond that we shared always remained with me and I've thought of you and Renee over the years. I'm just so sad that Renee was only to experience it for such a short time but grateful that she had the experience.

We are sending you our thoughts and heartfelt sympathy and wish much love and support for your family in the challenging time ahead.

In her honor, I made an appointment today for a much overdue mammogram.

Dear Stan,
Words cannot express the sadness we feel over Renee's passing. She was an amazing wife and mom, but we need to remember that she is still with us in spirit! Your friends in NF are praying for you and your family to get through these tough times. We wished we could be with you this week, but know that we will get together soon. We are here if you need help in any way. (PS...Leah will never forget what she called Renee and you when she was a toddler.... "the Lady and Watson")
God Bless!
