René Kemp Obituary

KEMP, René HINESVILLE, GA - Former State Senator René D. Kemp of Hinesville passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006 at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA after a long battle with cancer. His family was by his side. Mr. Kemp practiced law in Hinesville for 42 years. He served in the General Assembly of Georgia from 1976 until 1982 representing House District 139. In 1992, Mr. Kemp was elected to the Georgia State Senate from District 3 where he served in that capacity until 2004 when his health forced him to retire. Mr. Kemp loved the State of Georgia and particularly the people of his district. Law and politics were his life and he worked hard to make a better society for all of us. Mr. Kemp is survived by a son, Drew Kemp of Hinesville; two sisters, Patricia Kemp Perdue of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Catherine Kemp Parker of Moultrie, GA; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Matalice Spivey Fech of Vidalia, GA. Visitation will be 4-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2006 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Hinesville. Mr. Kemp will be buried in Swainsboro, GA at 3:00 p.m., at his family gravesite at the Swainsboro City Cemetery. CARTER FUNERAL HOME OGLETHORPE CHAPEL in charge of arrangements. Dear Family: When Diane and I were growing up many years ago, I was in the Kemp home often. Rene would do things with us, and then when we got older, I worked in the law community with him. He was an extra special person. My prayers are with Drew, and his sisters.
