Reeves Hamilton van Hettinga Charleston - Reeves Hamilton van Hettinga, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, April 28, 2018. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, at 12:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Reeves was born November 18, 1933 in Muscatine, Iowa, son of the late Henry van Hettinga and Virginia Jones van Hettinga. He earned a B.A. from Yale University in 1955, served in the U.S. Army in 1955-56, studied briefly at Yale Drama School and Parsons, and was a talented artist and former restaurateur in New York City before retiring to Charleston in 1992. Reeves is survived by his Charleston friends. He was predeceased by his two brothers: William Lance van Hettinga and John Quincy van Hettinga. A memorial celebration of his life will be arranged later. Memorials may be made to any charitable organization of choice.
