Rebecca Barr Plexico BARNWELL, SC - Rebecca Barr Plexico, 96, of Barnwell, SC entered into eternal life surrounded by her children on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Rebecca was born October 27, 1917, in Leesville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Alba Haynes and James Michael Barr, Sr. of Leesville. She was a 1938 graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC, with a double major in English and Library Science. She came to Barnwell to teach school, where she met and married Bernard Davis Plexico, Sr., who preceded her in death. Mrs. Plexico was an English and Social Studies teacher and a librarian in the Barnwell Public Schools for many years, retiring finally two months before her eightieth birthday. A woman of many talents and interests, she was a charter member of the Cherokee Garden Club and nurtured her beautiful azaleas, camellias, and live oaks on Washington Street for seventy years. She was an avid craftsman, making a variety of folk art, elves, afghans and Raggedy Ann dolls, which she sold at her annual craft show. She was a member of Barnwell Presbyterian Church where she was active in her church circle. Above all else, Mrs. Plexico loved her family. Survivors include three children: Davy Plexico of Barnwell, Jane Plexico Lentz of Statesville, NC and Sam Plexico of Barnwell and Edisto Island. Also, grandchildren: Bryce Plexico of Charlotte, NC, Julie Barr Plexico of Nashville, TN, step-granddaughter Bess Boleman Berry (Scott) of Gastonia, Robert Lentz of San Francisco, CA, Michael Lentz (Megan) of San Francisco, Katie Plexico and James Plexico of Barnwell. Additionally, she leaves a brother, Carlisle Haynes Barr (Louetta) of Hendersonville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special life-long friend, Pearline Newton of Barnwell. The family would like to thank the staff at Unihealth Post Acute Care - Barnwell for their incredible care and kindness over the last four years. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 30, at the Barnwell City Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. David Turner officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside after the service.
