It may seem odd to leave a message so many years later. It has been many years since I had Ray Thompson as part of my life. He was more than an inspiration and like a second Dad with his amazing family. 50+ years after I left Charleston, his family is still important to my life. His parents were so gracious. Life was simple then but great. And Mr. Thompson made it so. Blessings to all the family.

Alice,
What a sweet man Ray was! I always enjoyed seeing both of you at Aunt Carolyn's home. Ray was always so cheerful and fun to be around. And could always make you smile and laugh before you bid good-bye and "have a safe trip back to Charleston". He was honored to have such a sweet lady as you by his side. I know he hated to leave you but just know we will see him again in the Lord's own time. Please know that I am thinking of you and that you are in my prayers. Take care of yourself - please let me know if I can do anything for you!
Comfort and God Bless you!
With Love,
Cindy

Dear Ms Alice, Coatsie, Toni, Joackie & Family,
I was so shocked to hear of "Uncle" Ray's passing. I would have driven down today for the services if I found out sooner. He was (and will remain) a strong presence in the lives of all who knew him. He was such a dear friend of Dad's (LtCmdr.George Lathan, Sr) and was such a comfort and help to myself, Mom (Kitty Lathan)& George Jr. when Dad passed away. I always believed that Uncle Ray could move mountains! I remember as a little girl, watching him dance with Jackie at her wedding. I was in awe! He always flashed his famous smile whenever I asked for an update on Toni. I remember him beaming with pride at a music concert that Coatsie was in playing the horn.
I will treasure my fond memories of Uncle Ray, and take great comfort in knowing that we will all meet again in paradise.
Ms. Alice, Please know that my heart felt prayers are with you all during your time of sorrow.

Once there was a man who went to his doctor , who's office was just down the street, he decided to take his dog for the walk. Arriving at the doctor's office he asked the receptionist to keep an eye on the dog while he was in to see the doctor. She politely agreed. While in the doctor's office, the doctor informed him that he had a terminal illness and would soon pass away. The man asked the doctor what to expect in death. About that time the dog scratched at the door. The doctor opened the door and the dog rushed in. The doctor told the man that he assumed that death would be very similar to the dog entering his office. The man inquired as to what the doctor was talking about. He answered this way... Your dog has never been inside my office before, yet when the door was opened, he rushed right in. He did not know what to expect to find...all he knew was that his MASTER was there!
Anyone who knew him can be sure that Brother Ray Thompson rushed right in!!

Alice,
My heart is breaking for you and your family at this time. Ray was without a doubt one of the most honest and outspoken men I have ever known. If you didn't want to hear the truth, you didn't ask Ray because that's what you got from him. Ray will always hold very special place in my heart not only because he loved me and my family (especially Brantley) but because he was someone we could all count on. He could make you laugh, he could make you cry but most of all he could make you feel. His unswerving loyalty and dedication to the Wayfaring Singers of Charleston was phenomenal!! He was truly God's angel on earth!! We were all so lucky to be blessed by his friendship and love. What a man!!!
Ray was a "trip" and I'm glad we were on the same one; you made it one that we will never forget. I love ya dahlin'.

Dear friends and family of Mr. Ray,
Right now there are just not words to express my deepest feelings for each of you with the loss of Mr. Ray. I hope you can feel me holding each one of you in my prayers and thoughts as you make this transition in your lives.
Mr. Ray was loved and admired by my family very much. Mom, (Julie Infinger) I know it feels like you have lost your very own brother and I am keeping you deep in my prayers and thoughts. I bet my Daddy, the late Winston L. Infinger, jumped the gate to be the first one to meet Mr. Ray when the Lord called him home.
This one man had such a beautiful influence on so many people. Please let the wonderful memories flood your soul and give you some peace.
Miss Alice, God Bless and keep you in the days ahead.
Mr. Ray was a sum of all the people he met, so each of you have shared your life force that shined so brightly in Mr. Ray in life. Please continue to honor Mr. Ray by passing on the torch you shared with him in this lifetime!
Please forgive my words being so scattered, but each of you understand my confusion at this time of such great loss. God Bless each of you.
