I am so sorry to learn about Deacon Rhett. I am also sorry that I could not be there on this past Saturday for the homegoing. I am in North Carolina and have been here most of the week with my mother who is an invalid, can't walk or do anything for herself. My sister is away and I am having to care for her. I will be calling on you when I return to Charleston. My prayers continue to be with you and know that the joy of the Lord shall be your strength. Encourage yourself in Him. I am so sorry to hear about Mr Rhett's death. I met him when he was an inpatient at Roper Hospital. It didn't take long to know what a special person he was. He was a soft spoken man and I enjoyed visiting with him. He was so proud of his family. He told me that he and his wife agreed that only one of them could be sick at a time because they had to be there to take care of each other. What a SPECIAL couple they were. Mrs. Rhett, I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

To The Family of the Late Raymond Rhett,

What A MAN!!!!! As a sub-freshman in 1975, I walked into the Auditorium of the High School of Charleston, frustrated and disappointed because like many of my friends I wanted to go to The Mighty Burke High School. However, as I sat there pouting in my seat , in walks , THIS MAN, SMOOTH, WITH A SILENT BUT COMMANDING DISPOSITION AND DRESSSED TO THE Tee!!!! From the time he reached the podium and said Hello, I’m Raymond Rhett and I’m your PRINCIPAL, I knew I was in the right school and that my Attitude, Disposition and My Wardrobe all needed an adjustment. As I told him on many occasions, He was a student's ultimate Principal and he changed many lives forever. As a member of the class of 1980, we never wanted to disappoint or embarrass him. In fact, we excelled academically and did our best to stay in-line because we knew, what he required and expected. As I reflected on my years at Charleston High and read comments from my other classmates, it brings joy to my heart. I had so much fun at Charleston High and although we did not always do everything right. I can’t remember hearing Mr. Rhett raise his voice once in five years. We attempted to speak like him, walk like him, smile like him and most of the males in our class used all of our after school pay attempting to dress like him. Although, we never really could match him in either of the categories I mentioned above, he always made you feel like you did.

WHAT A MAN!!!! TO GOD IS THE GLORY!!!!

RIP MR. Rhett!!!!!

My deepest sympathy to the Rhett Family. Like many, I first met Mr. Rhett as a band teacher at Courtney Elementary. He had a calm and gentle way of teaching his students to master their instruments. Many of his students attended college on band scholarships as a result of his tutelage. I later got to know him better as a member of my church family at Central Baptist. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched in our beloved Charleston. Thank you Mr. Rhett for the opportunity to have known you.

To The Family of The Late Raymond Rhett,
I was given the opportunity to talk with Mr. Rhett during his last hospital visit. What a soul moving conversation we had. My mother use to tell me it's better to give flowers when they can be enjoyed - that is what I did. God gave me the opportunity to tell him about the impact he made on my life, and how much I appreciated him for that. And in return, my former principal told me how happy it made him to know he touched the hearts of many students at Charleston High. We talked about how great God is. What a blessing to have shared such a heart-wrenching talk with him. Peace to you Mr. Rhett.
