Raymond Bahm Obituary

Raymond Edward Bahm MT. PLEASANT - Raymond Edward Bahm, 81, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, following a short illness. Mr. Bahm was born June 22, 1929, in Wyandotte, MI, the son of the late Edward Bahm and Loretta Davis Bahm. Ray was pre-deceased by his mother and father and by 26 aunts and uncles. An aunt, Genevieve Davis (101) survives. Ray never married. His niece Suzette Drouillard of Franklin Park, NJ; and nephew Chuck and wife Jeri Drouillard of Mt. Pleasant, SC, lovingly cared for him in his last days. He will be sadly missed by his entire extended family, especially his neighbors at Ansonborough House in Charleston, SC. Ray was educated in the Wyandotte, Michigan Catholic schools and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. He received a Horticulture degree from Michigan State University. He was a master floral designer and worked for Ray Hunter Florist in Southgate MI. He then attended Detroit Business Institute and was later hired as their accountant. Ray then combined his floral and business skills and purchased Wyandotte Flower Shop in Wyandotte MI and operated it for several years, during which time he was President of the Wyandotte Merchants Association. He later sold the flower shop and worked for Weight Watchers and Hickory Farms. In 1997 he moved to South Carolina and lived in Mt. Pleasant and Charleston. Ray worked as a floral designer at several flower shops in Charleston. Ray was a veteran of the Korean War serving four years in the U.S. Army. He trained at Ft. Custer MI and was stationed at Ft. Benning GA. Following retirement he was a tireless volunteer for several Charleston organizations including the Symphony Society and Designer Showhouse, and thoroughly enjoyed his work. Ray was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, P.N. Lynch Assembly, Fourth Degree. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charleston and a former member of Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Family and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass, 10 a.m., Friday, May 13, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 89 Hassell St, Charleston, SC. Interment to follow at a later date at Michigan Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Daughters of St. Paul, 243 King Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or to the Knights of Columbus, Rev. P.N. This was what I chose to have written on the funeral cards:
Raymond E. Bahm
June 22, 1929 - May 11, 2011
"God's Garden"

God looked around His garden and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth, and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful. He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered, "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home.

Ray is and was one of the few honest souls I have had the the joy and honor to know. A loving and caring man, who was the best "junker" in the world, bar none. As he always said, with a hug and a double pat on the back, "bye, bye now, take care, see you later." We'll miss you Uncle Ray, you truly were a gift to all who knew you.

The words I can't express how lucky I was to have Uncle Ray in my life. Even though he was not blood he was my uncle. I was so blessed to begin my journey with him since I was a baby and now. I would go to visit my Grams Schrock and Aunt Phyl during my summer breaks for many many years. He would let me "work" in his flower shop and the crafts we would do during the summer. He taught me so much. He always made me Laugh..all the time. And when he cried I cried. Such a delightful man. I'm so lucky my daughters got to know him too. We would plan our vactions to florida to visit myparents Waldo & Shirley Haerther and made sure Uncle Ray would be there. He Mom & I would go "junkin" oh the fun we had.. The we would play cards and have a few glasses of wine and laugh. I will forever remember and he is with Our Lord , My Parents, Grams Schrock Aunt Phyl and brother Marshall...laughing and reminising. God Bless Jeri & Charlie and family.

To the Family of Ray Bahm:

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Ray. I had occasion to work with him as a docent at the Symphony Designer House and as an usher several times. He was a very pleasant and courteous person, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to work with him.

Chuck and Jeri, I was so very sorry to hear about Ray. We will certainly miss him here at the bank. He was always so kind and happy when he come in and often brought all of us Hershey's Kisses. You are in my thoughts and prayers today.
