Randy Driggers Obituary

Randolph William Driggers "Randy" ATLANTA, GA - Rev. Randolph "Randy" William Driggers, 73, died on Monday, April 26, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on November 24, 1936 in Summerville, South Carolina, the oldest child of Henry and Dora Driggers. At Summerville High School, he was senior class president, voted most likely to succeed, lettered in baseball and played center on the football team coached by the legendary John McKissick that went undefeated both years before losing in the playoffs. Randy attended Georgia Tech where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and remained a life-long Yellow Jacket fan. On September 29, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Tanner. In the early 1990s, he began taking classes at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Extension Campus in Atlanta and received his Master's of Divinity several years later. Randy then gave up a successful business career to become Minister of Education at Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. He loved people, and he loved ministering to them and helping them to grow in their faith. He had a servant heart and a servant spirit. He was most recently a member of Peachtree Corners Baptist Church in Norcross where he taught Sunday School before his illness. Known as "Pops" to his grandsons, he was very proud of his family and delighted in spending time with them. Randy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Driggers; son, Gary Driggers and wife Nancy of Atlanta; daughter, Tracey Greene and husband Mark of Duluth; beloved grandsons, Tyler Greene (and fiance;e Allyson Bennett) and Travis Greene; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Floyd and Ellen Brown of Macon, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Chris and Jeanette Fruitticher of Buford, GA; sister Mary Booth and husband Ed of Aiken, SC. Carolyn and family,
I was very saddened to hear of Randy's passing. I've had several Sunday School teachers in my lifetime, but none delivered the lesson as well as Randy.

To Carolyn and family of Randy Driggers:
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you face this very difficult part of life. Randy worked in my dad's grocery store in high school as "delivery boy" and we were in the same grade throughout our schooling. What a wonderful person he became! My deepest sympathies go to your entire family.

To Carolyn and all the family of Randy Driggers:

I was saddened to hear of Randy's passing. What a wonderful, kind man he was. When I worked at Briarlake while he was the minister on staff, I enjoyed seeing him because he was always so upbeat and cheerful. His love for the Lord was so evident. What a pleasure it was to work with him. I will miss him. My prayers go out to all of you.

What a wonderful change he brought to my life as my Sunday School teacher for many years in the original couples class at Briarlake. That class could never be duplicated and it has left a special place in my heart for Carolyn & Randy. My family and I loved him so much as a Christian man who lived the life he spoke about. Carolyn, please know that I love you so much. Thank you for sharing your life with me.

Carolyn, We are so sorry to hear of Randy's death. He was such a fine man. I always loved visiting with him after the Contemporary Worship Service at Briarlake, and having neighborly chats with him at the driveway. He was always so kind to Chase, and always seemed so interested in what he was doing. He is a man who lived through his Godly deeds here on Earth, but now lives on in Heaven through his deep belief in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Beloved Sunday School teacher, minister, Christian brother; we know that you have arrived at the destination we are all striving to attain. By now Randy has looked upon the face of our Lord Jesus Christ. There will always be a longing in our hearts to share our hearts with him again, hear him teach, get a hug; but we're O.K. Knowing where he is, that he is safe with Jesus, gives us consolation, and there'll be plenty of time for sharing when all are together for eternity.
We love you, Carolyn. There has never been a more devoted wife and mother. May you, Gary, Tracey, and their families be comforted by the presence of the GREAT COMFORTER, THE HOLY SPIRIT.
With Love, Andy and Gerri Davis

May God comfort your family at this time. Randy was the first teacher we had when we went to Briarlake Baptist Church in 1978. Later I worked with Randy at BBC and I always respected his ministry to the people of Briarlake Baptist Church.

Dear Carolyn and Family, My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family as your precious Randy has passed from this world into heaven to live forever with Jesus. Randy was a wonderful, caring, loving and wise man who always had 'time' to talk to people regardless of his schedule. As I visited him at Hospice, I read a few words of the beautiful song "Thank You" as it was so appropriate for him. "Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a life that is changed, Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am so glad you came." I will be praying for each of you that God grant you peace that surpasses all understanding. Much love, Jackie Fuller & Family
