Ralph Tracy Obituary

Ralph W. Tracy WALTERBORO - Ralph W. Tracy, 83, of Walterboro, SC, entered into eternal rest on December 20, 2012. Ralph was a graduate of Colleton Training School, Walterboro, SC. He received his Pharmacy Degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. After he received his degree from Howard, he served in the United States Army as a Medic in Germany. In 1957, Ralph began his professional career in Walterboro, SC when he opened the first African-American-owned drug store. He dedicated his life to serving the medical needs of the residents of Colleton County for fifty years and was affectionately known to Colletonians as "Dr. Tracy". Ralph was a member of the Palmetto Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association. Dr. Tracy was also a member of other social and civic organizations. He was also a member of St. Peters A.M.E. Church, Walterboro, SC. Left to cherish Ralph's fond memories include, his devoted wife, Roslyn Montgomery Tracy of the home; one daughter, Karla Tracy (Greg) Henderson of Shaker Heights, OH; one son, Ralph H. (Alfreda) Tracy of New Market, MD; four grandchildren, Cory, Maxwell, Ralph III, and Abigail; one brother-in-law, Horace (Jaine) Montgomery of Williamsburg, VA; four nieces, four nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, and caregivers. Home-Going services will be held on Monday, December 24, 2012 at 12:00 NOON in the edifice of St. Peters A.M.E. Church, Walterboro, SC, Reverend Leon Maxwell, Pastor. Public viewing will be held this evening, 4:00-5:45 P.M. with a wake service and visitation to follow, 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Stephens-Maree-Tracy Chapel of Serenity. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Parkinson's Disease Fondation, P.O. Box 381, Walterboro, SC and to the St. Peters A.M.E. Church Building Fund, In loving memory of Ralph W. Tracy. Mr. Tracy was a life saver to my family for many years. He not only dispensed prescriptions, but a lot of love and familiarly by remembering little things like your name and family members always taking care to ask how they were doing. You will be greatly missed!!
