I first met dad thirty five years ago when I started dating his wonderful daughter Cheryl. He accepted me day one and treated me like his own son from the first day. I considered him to be my father and I loved him like he was my father. Over all the years that I knew Ralph Goldstein I never heard him have an unkind word for ayone. He accepted people for what they are, never judging anyone. He found pleasure in the simple things in life and his greatest pleasure was spending time with family. You could see the joy in him when he was with his grandchildren. He never wanted for anything material, he was contented with a good book and chair. I am a better person for having the privilage of knowing, loving, and being part of his family. He will remain in my heart forever and I will try to be more like him everyday.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been asked to describe the man I knew as Poppy. Even here, after much time to reflect, it is hard to put into words how I feel about him. No one will ever take the place of my Poppy. If I had to pick my favorite characteristic, it would be his since of humor. My entire life I remember simple jokes he would tell that never once got old. I am truely blessed to have such a great man as my grandfather. I always have and will love you Poppy.

I am very saddened by the loss of my grandfather. I find a lot of comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the thoughts of all the people who love him. I am so greatful that my family and I got to see him one last time this summer. The long life he lived by the side of my grandmother is something I find myself envious of. He was a strong, stand up man that always put his family first, and lived to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
I love you Grandpa!

I am truly blessed to have had such a tremendous grandfather. He was a very special person and had an incredible outlook on life. I have learned a lot from him over the years; especially the importance of family. I will always remember him and miss him very much.

I'm so blessed to have had such a wonderful grandfather in my life and words simply cannot do justice to the wonderful person that he was. I know that if I can be just a fraction of the person that he was then I will have succeeded in life. I love and admire you Poppy. You have greatly inspired my life and the person I hope to become. I will miss you for the rest of my days. To my Popalopagus, Master Thumb Twiddler, and my loving grandfather I love you with all of my heart and soul, always!

My Dad was one of the most special people, kind, gentle, honest, and a keen wit. He went throught a lot of medical problems but never complained. I only hope I can be half the human being. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and all of his family with no strings attached. He never tried to change anyone, he accepted them for who they were. I will miss his wisdom and kind gentle manner all the days of my life. I love you Daddy with all my heart and soul. Cheryl

Renee Zinn Gordon sent me an email that Ralph had died, and I was and still am sad.
As a child, I remember being brought to Charleston by my parents, Izzy and Sabina Goldstein. I am their youngest child and my name is Bill Goldstein.
We visited everyone in the families of the Goldstein’s, The Sabels, and the Zinns, and as the day ended, it was the ride back to Columbia, until our next visit to Charleston.
Not to long ago the last child of Sam and Ida Goldstein, Sidney Goldstein died, and that was the end of an era of our part of the Goldstein that came from Lithuania to Charleston, and beyond. Now I find myself the oldest from my side of the family.
To Evelyn, who I fondly remember and the children and grandchildren that, I sadly do not know, your loss of Ralph is sad and difficult, but you have the life’s memories of a good and kind loving man with a wonderful friendly smile.

I only knew Poppy for a short while. I met him at Beth and Rob's wedding. What a wonderful man he was. You can see his legacy in his children, grandchildren and all of those he touched. His total focus, care and love for Nanny is going to be hard to follow, but it is obvious that you are all capable of sharing that joy.

My fond memories are actually based on my mother's fond memories of Ralph and his family. I have heard so many warm memories of their childhood. My mother was Becky Sabel, and she married Lenny Liblick. Bruce and I used to attend some of the same AZA/BBG events when I would be in Charleston for the summer. Sadly, my mother, her brother Hymie Sabel, and their first cousin Sydney Goldston all passed within two weeks of each other in June of this year. There must be a special family reunion going on in heaven.
My sincere codolences to the family.

When I read the obit online, I became very saddened and then began notifying our family. Ralph was a true Goldstein-very kind, gentle, sweet, never complained, and always upbeat. Looking back through the years, I remember my mother, Faye, taking us to see Auntie Rosie and Uncle Max, Evelyn and Ralph every Sunday after Sunday School. This was a ritual for years. My mother adored Ralph and her family as we do. Ralph was always very special and always came to every event we had in Charleston and Jacksonville. Through the years I spoke with him but not often enough. He gave me a lot of family background info that I have cherished. My heart is full as I think about Ralph whom we all loved dearly. He will be missed. I want to extend my deep condolences to Evelyn, Cheryl, Bruce, Alwyn and their families. Karen's message was beautiful -

As the youngest daughter of Faye and Nate, I too have many happy memories of Ralph. I am so happy Ralph and Evelyn attended my wedding in Charleston to Joe White. Ralph will live on in my thoughts. He was a blessed man to have such a loving family.

I was so saddened to hear of Ralph's passing. I remember as a young girl all of the Goldstein's..being at Uncle Max's and Auntie Rosie's home and all of us as children. Cheryl and I were the same age and all the fun times as children and teens..Ralph was certainly one of Momma's closest cousins..
With love to all of you

I will miss my grandfather (Poppy) everyday for the rest of my life! He was a wonderful man who had so much love to give. Never a complaint...just laid back and go with the flow. I am such a lucky girl to have been blessed with a Poppy like Ralph Goldstein. For 31 years of my life he was here with me! I am sad to know that he will not be here to see me get married or to meet his great grandchildren. But I know that I will strive everyday for the rest of my life to be more like him and a day will not go by that he is not remembered for the wonderful man that he was. I love you Poppy!!
