Ralph Gibson Obituary

Ralph Rufus Gibson ORANGEBURG, SC - Ralph Rufus Gibson, 84, of 9750 Willie Road, died Thursday, at the Orangeburg Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Bethany Baptist Church near Bolentown. Rev. Don Smoak and the Rev. Steve Scott will officiate. Burial in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., in Orangeburg. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Gibson, Shane Gibson, Zack Gibson, Mike Rucker, D.J. Faircloth, Eddie Polin, and Dwayne Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be the brothers-in-law. Mr. Gibson was born October 17, 1925, in Hampton County, a son of the late Rufus Clayton Gibson and the late Ora Lee Stone Gibson. He was a Member of the Bethany Baptist Church. He was retired from Greenwood Mills. He was a former mechanic at Star Pontiac in Beaufort, S.C. Survivors include his wife, Annie Lee Williams Gibson of Laurel Baye; two daughters, Sarah Hooker and Mary Jane Spires, both of Columbia; three sons, James and Eunice Gibson, Robert and Jane Gibson, all of Orangeburg, and Kenneth Gibson and Tammy Bolen, both of Neeses; sister, Lera Smith of Tennessee; brother, Rufus C. Gibson, Jr., of Hampton; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the residence 9750 Willie Road, Orangeburg, and at THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., in Orangeburg. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Palmetto S.C.
