Rachel Carpenter Obituary

CARPENTER, Rachel HOLLY HILL, SC Mrs. Rachel Green Carpenter, 88, passed away December 6, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 10, 2005 in the chapel of Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill, SC. Graveside services and interment will follow at 2:30 PM Saturday afternoon at Lakeland Memorial Gardens in Monroe, NC. Formerly of Wingate, NC, Mrs. Carpenter had been at the home of her son in Holly Hill, SC for the last eight years. She was born in Spring Hope, NC, on June 9, 1917, the youngest of eleven children of Levy Lee Green and Julia Frances Barbour Green. She attended schools in Monroe, NC, and married Clinton Ray Carpenter on January 1, 1936. They raised their family in Monroe, Fayetteville, and Wingate, NC. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Target United Methodist Church in Holly Hill, and a former member for many years of Wingate United Methodist Church in Wingate. She was a member of the United Methodist Women for over 50 years, and was a past officer of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife and mother, and retired from MaLeck Woodcrafts where she ran the gift shop for a number of years. She is survived by her children: Clinton R. Carpenter, Jr. and wife, Lucretia (Crick) of Rock Hill, SC; Barbara C. Jones and husband, Bill of Ozark, AL; Jane C. Watts and husband, Dargan of Orlando, FL; Ronald L. Carpenter and wife Freida, of Summerville, SC; and Rick L. Carpenter and wife Christel, of Holly Hill, SC; grandchildren, C. Ray Carpenter, III, Angie C. Ledford, Bill Jones, Tim Jones, Tammy J. Summers, Dargan Watts, Jr., Whitney Carpenter, Matt Carpenter, Caroline Carpenter and Leslie C.Edwards; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
