Layton was my husband Preston“s and my friend through his sons. Robbie in particular has spent a lot of time with the Hipp family, but always putting his parents first. Layton always make me feel that he was full of glee in the joy of the Lord in seeing me again. He and Gwen have taken such joy in our three daughters growing up as well. He gave worth to each person, seeing us through the eyes of our Creator! He is seeing that same Look receiving him into the world without end.

Layton was a strong, supportive, and ethical presence in many lives through his friendship, and through his local and national medical leadership. I was one of those who learned and gained immensely from him. I will always miss him.

At his last arrival he will be welcomed with great warmth by my brother, Will. They were great friends, from medical school days. I got to know Layton from that friendship, later through mutual professional interests. I thought of him as a fine man; a good listener; a superb physician; a thoughtful leader. I admired him. My condolences to Gwen and the family.

Layton was a friend and counselor to me in my business and life. He surrounded himself with good and loving people. He had a knack for hiring the best Physicians in the USA. He will be greatly missed by all and by his Community. Harry Smith

Bless the journey of his soul in Eternity. He was a mentor to me, and I owe my involvement at the Gibbes Museum to his support. Deepest sympathies to Gwen and their family.

He was a gentle giant. I never met anyone who knew him who wasn't his friend.
