Quitman and I knew each other professionally (through both his and mine); through the years he became a valued friend. He was patch of cheer in a sometimes gloomy world.

Knowing Quitman would be coming almost took the horror out of having your A/C break down.
He was a lovely man and we are deeply saddened to read of his death.

Pulaski 2003 fishing trip with my son. Even with the cold weather and snow he still had a smile on his face because he loved to fish.

What I remember most about Quit is he always had a smile on his face. If one talked about fishing he was ready to go. To my sister Anna and Quitman IV, Reed and Jeri, Meredith, and Katie his love for life lives on through each of you and memories shared. Smile at someone today and think of him.

There is so much to say about my friend from N. Augusta and Charleston, as young men we shared many canoe and camping trips along the Savannah and many nights riding through the Edgefield County backwoods trying to stick our trucks in the mud or even his Sig-Cox van.
We spent many hours fishing the waters in and around Charleston together. I will miss him greatly but will always carry his infectious laughter and his enthusiasm for the outdoors with me. I hope to join you again on the the bank of the river my friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family Anna, Quitman IV,Katie, Merideth, Reed and Jeri.

My husband and I are deeply saddened to hear of Quitman's passing. We remember him quite well. He and his family lived on Seminole Rd in the Vineland subdivision. All of the kids used to gather in late afternoons and play baseball and or football on his street. He and his sister, Meredith, spent many a day playing in my backyard with my two children as well. I will never forgot what a nice, well-mannered young boy he was. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family. You are in our thoughts and prayers

Although I did not know Quit, I do know family who loved him. Quit's sister, Meredith, and her family and his father Reed. We are very saddened that Quit died so young and well before his loved ones were ready to say good-bye. We are thinking of all of you and know your hearts are aching.

I remember a little boy living in my neighborhood when I was younger. All the boys in the neighborhood would gather at 'the park' to play sports. One day this little boy came up to watch us, we asked him his name. He proudly said "My name is Qiutman Wakeley the third". We thought he was such a cool kid and often let him join in. The neighborhood in Augusta is Vineland. I am back in the house I grew up in and walk the neighborhood nightly. I don't remember exactly where he lived but sure remember the name. My condolences and I will ask my fellow Vinelanders if they remember him. And to Quitman Reed Wakeley the fourth, your dad could hit a baseball no matter how hard we threw it.
