Plowden Dickson Obituary

Plowden Dickson, Jr. CHARLESTON - Plowden Dickson, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Manning, South Carolina, to Plowden Dickson, Sr. and Katherine Sugg Dickson, and was raised in Georgetown, where he graduated from Winyah High School. His funeral service will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 at Fort Johnson Baptist Church, 1473 Camp Rd., Charleston, SC 29412, at 11:00 am, with his burial to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends one hour prior at the church at 10:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. After high school, Plowden proudly served his country in the United States Navy, completing two years of active duty followed by six years in the Naval Reserve. Following his service, he made Charleston his home in 1963, where he would build a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. In 1968, Plowden began a long and dedicated career with Frito-Lay, retiring after 27 years of service. It was during this time, in 1972, that he was introduced to Rosslyn MacMillan Davis on a blind date. The two married in 1974 and shared 51 years of love and partnership. Plowden was a faithful and active member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church, where his quiet strength and steadfast faith left a lasting mark on all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Charlie. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosslyn; daughters, Laura (David) Teas, Karen (Jeff) King, and Jennifer Davis; grandchildren, Austin King and Kylie King; sister, Kathy Inman and niece Debbie Inman Smith. Plowden will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his unwavering integrity, and his gentle spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fort Johnson Baptist Church Forward from the Fire Fund at www.fjbc.net in his memory.
