Phyllis Carlson Obituary

Phyllis Carlson CHARLESTON - Phyllis Ann Smith Carlson, 74, on Friday, June 28, 2013, joined her husband, her son, her brother and parents, all gone before and awaiting her in Heaven. Phyllis was born in Concord, NC. Upon graduation from Odell High School, she studied to be a radiology technician. When on a blind date, ironically, she fell in love at first sight with Gerald Ray Carlson, a graduate of Northeastern University. They married and together raised a family of two, son Mark Elliott and daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth. Gerry's career as a Civil Engineer moved the family around the South until settling in Jacksonville, Florida. Following the untimely death of Gerry, Phyllis eventually moved with her children back to Concord to be near her large family including parents, Marvin and Elizabeth, brother, Wally, two sisters, Billie and Gail, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In Concord, Phyllis began a career in real estate and property management. She was one of the first employees of InterSouth Management, a fledgling company with a small portfolio. In the years to follow, InterSouth Management acquired over thirty holdings from New York down to Florida. She retired after years of service and relocated to Charleston, SC, where daughter, Charlotte, and son-in-law, David Fisher, make their home. In Charleston, Phyllis volunteered for ITN, a transportation service for seniors. In her day, Phyllis enjoyed a good game of tennis, reading, power shopping for bargains, and spending time with family. She adored her grandson, Matthew Carlson, and granddaughter, Britney Adams. Phyllis had a gentle way that will be missed by all. Her life and legacy will be celebrated by family in a graveside service at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church in Concord, conducted by Rev. Alan Buckner. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
