Phyllis,I've tried to write this since first reading your obituary, struggling to decide what to say and how to explain my feelings for my "bestest" friend, you--dear, sweet Phyllis. That's the way you always referred to me, "my bestest friend". What a neat person and friend you have been! Your quirky sense of humor, delight in and love for your precious maltese babies; your always being there for me all those years---over 60 of them, hard to believe!---all were what made up you, my buddy, Phyllis. We knew each other a lifetime, and I just didn't dream it would end so soon---'way too soon. I am still in shock over your unexpected, sudden death. I now have no one in whom I can confide, safe in the knowledge that those confidences will never be discussed nor disclosed to anyone else. Remember? We discussed our parents, boyfriends, husbands, children, and a myriad of life experiences over all those years, never holding anything back. I'd have trusted you, girl, with my life, and I know you felt the same about me. Your sometimes wry, unusual sense of humor would make me laugh, even through some dark days in my own life. Heaven knows, you had many, many dark days of your own throughout your life, especially the past year; yet you never lost that delicious sense of humor and ability to make the best of the very worst.

I will always love you, my dearest, "bestest" friend, and I will never, ever forget you. My heart is so heavy with the pain of losing you. May you happily join Joe and all those little maltese babies whose deaths you mourned and shed so many tears over. May you now rest in God's arms and finally be at peace, my beloved friend.

All my love always,
"Dickie"

Phyllis was such a wonderful, beautiful person. I have never known anyone who had as much love for her darling Maltese puppies. She loved them and cared for them often going without sleep when there were newborns or when one was ill. Phyllis will never be forgotten. Those of us lucky enough to have been allowed to adopt one of her puppies are lucky indeed to have such a fine, quality Maltese left in our keeping.

Our only connection was the love we shared for our beautiful Maltese. Your desire was that we help each other. A message I will never forget.

I often wonder why people come together and bond even if it is for a short while. I felt as though I knew Phyllis for years even though it was for a few short months. Her life stories, her sense of humor and the unconditional love she had for Joe and her "babies" will forever be in my heart. I feel blessed that I got to know her, even for a short time, and feel even more blessed that I have a piece of her heart in my baby Cosmo. May she rest at peace. God bless you all who knew her and cared for her.
