Phyllis Battista Obituary

BATTISTA, Phyllis Entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 17, 2008 Phyllis Mary Gatto Battista, wife of Vincent James Battista. Mrs. Battista was born in Glendale, CA the daughter of Augusta and Augustine Palumbo Gatto on Saturday, May 6, 1922. She was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Vincent J. Battista of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Barry P. Battista and his wife Tammy of Mechanicsville, VA; two grandchildren, Kelly and Kevin Battista. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM this Thursday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. A Vigil Service will be held at 5:00 PM also on Thursday. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent J. Battista are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2008 at Stella Maris Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island. Jim (Vince as Phyllis called you) my sincere wishes of sympathy go out to you. I was so saddened to hear the news of Phyllis' death. I wish I could be there in person with Melissa. She was a pistol. I'll never forget the times we spent visiting. The first time we had crabs and beer together to the last visit with our children. My prayers and thoughts are with you and with Phyllis.

Phyllis was a true and very dear friend with whom we had many wonderful times. She was devoted to her family, friends and faith; living an exemplary life. She always had a twinkle in her eye and her energy was boundless! She loved life, all its activities and especially sharing her life with others. Her recipes, including her outstanding lasagna, were enjoyed by and given to many grateful diners. A great lady who will be missed by many.
