Mr and Mrs Shackelford were like a second mom and dad to me during my high school days in Mt. Pleasant with my best friend their daughter Darlene and into my later years when they also "adopted" into their large hearts my husband Kevin. The last time I saw Mr. Shackelford, Darlene and I walked into his kitchen and with that huge smile he yelled out, "it's my twins" recalling how inseparable Darlene and I were as teens. He was such a dear, dear man and he will be truly missed by those who loved him. Know that I am surrounding all of you in prayer.
I Love you Dar!

Flip - I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know your father, but judging by what has been written about him, he must have been an outstanding man! Just sorry I didn't get to meet him. I pray for you and your family during this time and ask God to comfort and bless each one of you.

We were saddened to see that Mr. Shackelford has passed away. He was a gentle and quiet man, full of good cheer, who made everyone feel better just by his being in the room. We extend our sympathy love and prayers to Darlene, Derek and the boys, and to the family.

I recall with fondness, joy, and gratitude the love and kind hospitality of your parents Phillip and Sarah during those years Derek and I were at The Citadel and Judy and I were dating. I always enjoyed those conversations with your father. He reminded me so much of my own father, both veterans of World War II. I am thankful for your father's service to our country and the kindness and love he extended to me as a cadet and graduate of The Citadel. Judy and I hold you and Derek in our hearts and prayers. I will be thinking of you and the family tomorrow and in the days ahead. ~ Richard & Judy Hodges

Flip.....very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, but wow....99 years! I had not seen your parents for so many years, but have some funny memories of coming by your house during our days in Hobcaw. I remember your Dad as always being very funny and entertaining. Will have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers during this time.
