Philippe Berthet Obituary

Philippe Berthet CHARLESTON - Philippe Berthet died peacefully in Normandy, France on August 28 surrounded by his wife and children. He had been in the wool business all his life. He began his career in Buenos Aires and his native France then moved to Boston in 1967 to become president of Prouvost/Lefebvre Inc and later of Chargeurs Wool, USA. It was under his management that the wool combing plant moved from Rhode Island and the offices from Boston to consolidate operations in Jamestown, SC. He was a great sportsman and enjoyed sailing, quail hunting and reading. He was an avid golfer and had been club champion of The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. He served as Honorary Consul for France to Charleston in the 1990's. His thoughtful and kind manner will be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife Linette, children Caroline Davila, Jacqueline Berthet Bellows, Jean Philippe Berthet and Alexandra Fox, by his granddaughters Natalia, Francisca, Carolina and Sylvia Davila, Claire, Ellora and Julia Berthet Bellows, Allison Berthet, Emma and Isabelle Fox, his grandson, Charles Fox and great-grandson Cole Maurice Dilling. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Christ our King Church in Mount Pleasant at 10 AM on Oct 23; coffee will be served in Grace Hall after the mass. What an amazing man. You are all so fortunate to have such a close family, and I can see where the strength for that originated. And I feel fortunate to have know him too. Hugs to all of you, and may he rest in peace.

Caroline and Family,
What a remarkable man he was! I know you were proud of him, just as he was proud of you.
It has been over 8 years since I lost my father; I think about him every day, but there are so many good times to remember him by. I hope you have the same happy memories of good times with your father.
