Philip Firetag Obituary

Philip Leon Firetag SUMMERVILLE - Philip Leon Firetag, 67, husband of Audreyette Norton Firetag entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in Summerville, SC after a strong fought battle with Glioblastoma. His graveside service will be held Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL. Philip was also Papa to two daughters, Renee Phillips of Summerville and Noelle Elmoutaouakil and her husband, Abdul, of Merritt Island, FL and their two daughters, Aasiyah and Juwairiyah, Phil's granddaughters, who delighted him. Philip is also survived by his loving sister, Reena and brother Gerald (Susan) of Charleston and brothers, Ronnie and Max of Columbia; along with nieces, Laura Firetag, Seattle, Heidi Firetag, Charleston and Brandi Goodrich, San Francisco; nephews, Aaron Firetag, Charleston and Adam Firetag, Columbia; and many cousins throughout the US. Philip was born at Roper Hospital in Charleston on May 18, 1947, the eldest son of Israel & Phyllis Levenbaum Firetag. Phil grew up in downtown Charleston, graduated from Rivers High School and especially enjoyed his years at Clemson University. He successfully owned Firetag Bonding Co. and Charleston Bail Bonds for 40 years. Phil was devoted to his three Boston Terriers, Belle, Beauty and Rose and enjoyed playing with his daughter's (Renee) puppy, Bruce Lee. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and daughters. He particularly enjoyed the "empty-nest" journeys, lasting months at a time, with his wife. In addition he loved live theater, reading, cartoons, collecting Disney & Warner Bros. animation art and building kit cars, working on two at the time of diagnosis. Philip's family extends sincere thanks to his caregivers, Betty Williams, Lisa Simmons, Paulette Lee and, Fleshia Lowkie all of the Charleston area. Also to the entire staff of the Pride/Longterm Care Unit at the Village of Summerville and the staff at Agape Hospice, Lisa Dozier, Chaplain David Hicks, Nurse Rebbeca Jackson, and Shanekqua Scott. Special thanks to Dr. Pierre Giglio's Team at Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC. Friends Margo Fox, Kevin Fox, Kathi Tomsu and Aunt Margie Hartsell provided constant support, prayers and love to Phil and his family. I am so so saddened by the news of Phil's passing. The picture in the obituary is how I always saw him. He always had a smile on his face . Words cannot express to his family how wonderful he was to everyone who new him. I will have fond memorize of my dear family friend. He will be missed but he is at peace .
