Peyton Moore Obituary

Peyton Johnson Moore MT. PLEASANT - Peyton Johnson Moore, 9, son of Noah John Robert and Jennifer Leigh Moore of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. A Celebration of Peyton's Life will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 in the Ministry Center of St. Andrews Church - Mt. Pleasant, 440 Whilden Street, at 2:00 pm. Inurnment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends in Sams Hall of St. Andrews Church - Mt. Pleasant following the inurnment. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Peyton was born September 10, 2003 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and was a student at Mt. Pleasant Academy and formerly at The O'Quinn School in Mt. Pleasant. He loved sports and being outdoors and was a member of The Mt. Pleasant Track Club, the Charleston Running Club, Charleston Runs, and USA Track and Field. Always wanting to encourage others, he was a supporter of the Injured Marines Semper Fi Fund, and when running, wanted to recognize those who were supporting any event. Not one to sit around, Peyton was also a member of the International Juggler's Association, the Cub Scouts, and was a strong athlete. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Redskins Championship Football Team, qualified and competed in the USA Track & Field 2012 National Junior Olympic Championship, and was the number one Javelin Thrower in the State of South Carolina for nine and ten year olds. And, even at his young age, he was an inspiration by serving as a running coach for adults in Couch to 5k, tutored other students, and was the leading scorer on his basketball team this past year. Even with all of Peyton's love of sports from kayaking to swimming, boating to football, he also loved school and his teachers, making straight A's and holding perfect attendance. He was recognized for the Principle's Honor Roll. Peyton's family, however, was number one! He loved to be with his grandparents on their boat, swim off their dock, run with his dad, and camping and spending hours talking with his mama about life and love. Peyton is survived by his parents, Noah and Jennifer Moore of Mount Pleasant, SC; his maternal grandparents, Stewart and Paula Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Moore of Morehead, KY; and his aunts, Robin Donehue and her husband, Kevin of Morehead, KY, Regina Stamper and her husband, Jeff of Morehead, KY, Joan Robinson and her husband, James of Indianapolis, IN, and Rachel Ragland and her husband, Roy of Mt. Sterling, KY. He also is survived by a host of loving and adoring family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert William Moore. Memorials in Peyton's name may be made to Mt. Pleasant Academy PTA Teacher's Fund, 605 Center Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, or the Mt. Pleasant Youth Track Booster Club, c/o Tami Dennis, 6 Yacht Harbor Court, Isle of Palms, SC 29451. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. I personally did not know Peyton. I knew his father Noah from school many years ago.
I got into running by following Noah and Peyton and I have went from not able to run a 1/4 mile to running multiple distances up to three full IRONMANS.

This past summer, I happen to be in KY and went to a class with my mother. Without knowing who was all in the class. I met Robin, Peyton's aunt and I knowing Noah and family. Plus knowing about Jennifer's IRONMAN. Let say we both were emotional for Peyton. My mom had not idea what was really going on. Anyway, it was an honor to meet uncles and aunts plus I had the opportunity to run with them just before I left KY 2019.

Thank you Noah and family for what you do. Thank you Peyton,

Today, I ran for Peyton.

My son, who was a classmate of Peyton's at the School of the Arts - Summer SAIL Program last year, just found out about Peyton's passing. He was looking forward to being with Peyton again and when he did not see him around, he inquired and was told the sad news. We want to extend our heartfelt sympathies to your family and pray that God will keep you and comfort you all, now and in the days to come.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you try to cope with this devastating loss. Though I never had the privilege of meeting your beloved son, I have no doubt he knew how deeply he was loved. He was a blessing to you all as you were to him. He is, and forever will be, with you in both mind and spirit. He will never leave you hearts. Your loss breaks my heart. May you find comfort in your memories and the knowledge that he loved his family deeply. The hurt will never heal, one merely learns to manage the pain as time moves forward. God bless you all.

Peyton Moore had more leadership qualities, character, ability and determination at eight years old than most any grown man I have met in my life. He singlehandedly carried his basketball team this year, and he never complained about anything. Peyton helped feed the ball to kids who otherwise never would have scored a basket, he put up with getting fouled all game long, and fought through any and all adversity that came his way. I thought he would be in the NBA one day. God must have needed him now for his team. I can only imagine he is running, jumping, smiling, laughing, and shooting basketballs up in Heaven.

(In no way are those thoughts of Peyton intended to diminish the realization that there is horrible hurt, devastation, and loss that his family is suffering today. Peyton's Dad, his Mom, His Granddad, they all loved him from what I observed more than these words can describe, and they will need our prayers and support for a long long time. I am so sorry. I am.).

Peyton is a warrior. He was the best little basketball player I ever saw. I'll never, ever, forget him.

I didn't know Peyton personally. But at the Myrtle Beach Track meet I saw a bright spirited young man who was friendly to all he encountered. He exhibited the heart of a champion and was an example for all the other children to follow. My deepest condolenses to the family.
