Dear Nancy, I had just sent you an email last week depicting our little granddaughter wearing an outfit that I had made for TK 44 years ago when we were all stationed in Europe. The email came back and I told myself to send it to Pete's email but did not get to it. Ellen Batceldorg called this morning to say that Pete had taken his "high flight" and our memories flooded back to he and Alan TDY in Italy, our evenings spent with you in Germany and the two kids playing. We are thinking of you and our thoughts hover there with you like soft blanket to help you. Becky and Alan

Pete was a good friend and 1964 classmate of mine @ The Citadel. Long time ago---1966 I believe---both of us were USAF pilots. One day I was flying over the Gulf of Tonkin and heard an emergency beeper that indicated a pilot had bailed out. My instrument panel homed in on where the beeper was coming from and I plotted the position. I radioed the navy ship always stationed off the Vietnamese coast and provided the coordinates of the downed pilot. 3 days later, while I was on Okinawa, I read a message on the Squadron bulletin board saying AF pilot 1/Lt Pete Stipp was picked up by a navy ship in the Gulf on the day I radioed the message. I saw Pete at our 20th reunion and we had a good laugh! I will toast Pete and celebrate his life and our friendship at a gathering of Citadel classmates in Charleston on 10 July. Pete was a patriot and a fine South Carolinian! May God Bless His Eternal Soul.

Dear Family & Loved Ones of my 1960's Citadel friends; and,
primarily, as I knew Peter, an outstanding Cadet, infielder, hitter, base runner and inspirational leader for four years on The Citadel Bulldogs baseball team!
Although we have not seen each other for several decades, I clearly remember Peter as a wonderful member of the team---always pleasant, positive, hustling, dependable and a young man of impeccable character.
I was a Student (Cadet) Manger/Trainer for the team from 1961-65, and Peter was one of everyone's favorite and most dependable and admired teammates as an unselfish contributor and role model player, leader and well rounded student.
Peter's heroics in the USAF, later in life, were also well known and admired by all who heard of his brave, unselfish and professional accomplishments in his military service to our country.
May God Bless Peter, Peter's family and all of his friends whose lives he most certainly enriched in many ways for four years at The Citadel and undoubtedly continued to emulate for over 70 years. .

I first met Peter while he was the manager of Fluor's Little Rock office in 1981 and remained friends ever since regardless of where he worked. Peter was a salt of the earth man who you could always count on to do what was right and fair. I will miss him.
I offer my sincerest condolences to the entire Stipp family and just know that Peter is in a better place. I am looking up at the skies and I think that I see him looking down and smiling at all of us. I suspect that he is looking for a new larger fishing boat. I was very privileged to have Peter as a friend.

My condolences to the Stipp family. Peter was a leader and hard worker. I remember well a year after I returned from Viet Nam watching the evening news in Atlanta. There was a feature clip rescuing a pilot who had been shot down. The camera operator was on the rescue helicopter. When the rescued pilot, on the cable, was turned around, I saw a most familiar face then the caption indicated the pilot was Peter Stipp, USAF, from Greenville, SC.
My heart stopped. I was speechless. That night, I said a prayer for Peter and those who performed the rescue. Tonight, many years later, I will thank God for the privilege and honor of his friendship.
Most respectfully,
Don Plunkett
