Peter Rix Obituary

Peter B. Rix MT. PLEASANT - Peter B. Rix, 81, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on August 3, 2023 after a brief illness. Peter was born on September 20, 1941 to John E. and Elizabeth B. Rix in Wenham, MA. After graduating from Beverly High School in 1959, he went on to study at the University of New Hampshire. Peter worked in a variety of food service and restaurant roles, beginning at Bickford's Pancake House in the Boston Area, to the University of Pittsburgh Dining Service, and eventually owned the Olde Colony Bakery in Charleston, SC, where he worked until selling the business last year. Peter loved food, drink, and entertaining for family and friends. An avid gardener, his gardens and yard were the envy of every neighborhood where he lived. Peter loved to draw and paint, and many family members have his artwork hanging in their homes to remember him by. Anyone who knew Peter knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather and husband a family could ask for. Peter is survived by his wife of 50 years Sheila A. Rix of Mount Pleasant; his sister, Jacqueline Whatmough and her husband, Robert Whatmough of Concord, NH; his son, Steven E. Rix of Honolulu, HI and his grandchildren, Ansley and Hunter Rix of Los Angeles, CA; his son Todd M. Rix and his wife, Lisa D. Rix and grandsons, Owen and Wyatt Rix of Conway, SC; his son, Phillip J. Rix and his wife, Lindsey R. Rix, of Ann Arbor, MI; his daughter, Meredith R. Barrett, her husband, James Barrett and grandchildren, McCrae and Duncan Barrett of Moncks Corner, SC. Peter will be forever missed by his loving wife, family, and many dear friends. A private Celebration of Life for the family will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Pet Helpers of Charleston, SC or World Central Kitchen in Peter's honor.
