Peter O'Malley Obituary

Peter Francis O'Malley CHARLESTON - Peter Francis O'Malley, 78, passed away in Charleston, SC, on February 8, 2019, from an accidental injury while doing a good deed for a longtime friend. He was born on September 28, 1940, in Stratford, CT, and was the son of Hubert R. and Frances Slattery O'Malley. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1958 and the University of Connecticut in 1963. After college, he joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Charleston, SC. He was a Navigator in the Air Force, earned the rank of Captain, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. After leaving the Air Force in 1969, he became a Certified Public Accountant and started his long accounting career having his own private practice on Broad Street. He had the pleasure of having O. J. Small as his longtime accounting partner. He was a hard worker especially during tax season and enjoyed serving his clients. He was delighted that his daughter, Heather, worked at his practice with him from her college graduation in 1994 until the birth of her first child in 2003. If you knew him, you knew that Heather, and his only granddaughters, O'Malley and Legare, meant the world to him. In the fall of 2015, he retired from being a CPA. He enjoyed boating, fishing, sharing a good laugh, telling a funny story, and fellow Charleston Irish friends. He was Past President of the Breakfast Exchange Club of Charleston, Past President of the SC Irish Historical Society, lifetime member of the Hibernian Society, and a longtime member of the Charleston Yacht Club. He also served on the Parents Advisory Council of Randolph-Macon College where both of his daughters attended college. He is survived by his daughters, Heather O'Malley and Kelli Shively (Richard); granddaughters O'Malley and Legare Jenkins; sisters Margaret Bothner and Patricia Meier. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard O'Malley. The family will receive friends from 3:30-6 pm Saturday, February 16, at 1252 Colfax Court, Mt. Pleasant, SC.
