I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss. My children were patients of Dr. Hastings and he was always thoughtful and reassuring when they were in his care. We have recently moved and I just found out about the tragedy. May God comfort you in your time of need.

I am sorry to see the lose of Dr. Hastings. He was my son's pediatrician for 12 months and my son loved him a lot. He was always smiling and telling him jokes and playing with him all the time when we had doctors appointments. He will be truely missed by our family. He helped my family out alot when we needed advice from him because we are first time parents and I really appreciated that from him. In best regards he will be missed greatly. We were truly shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Hastings. He was a wonderful doctor and fabulous with kids. My daughter, Rachel, loved him. My deepest sympathy goes out to The Hastings family. He was the best Peds. doctor that I have encountered he was specially concerned last year when my niece (Denasia Valley)pass away on 9/1/04, one of his patients. He was a wonderful doctor to Destiny,Johnny Cabrera,Jessica Swenson, Kaylee and Tia Guzman, he will be deeply missed.

My son Justin has been seeing Dr. Hastings since he was Three days old. He was a terrific doctor, my favorite of all. He was very kind. I remember seeing all the pictures in the doctors offices of his daughters drawings, and I would think "He must have a beautiful family." My prayers are with you all.

Dr. Hastings was my Grandaughter Amara's pediatrician and my daughter always had wonderful things to say about him. My daughter was very saddened to hear about his death and I had never met him but my heart goes out to his family. Dr. Hastings will be missed by all. Diane Liebenrood

Just the other day I was driving and a "Salt 'n' Pepa" song called "Push It" came on the radio. I was instantly transported back to the Bucknell natatorium and had the most vivid memory of Pete wildly dancing around on the deck to that song. It put a smile on my face. Now I am so saddened to hear of his recent death. I will always remember Pete as a joyful, uninhibited, and playful person. I once heard a saying that went something like this: "Dance like no one is watching, love like your heart has never been broken, and live every day as though it's your last." Forunately for Pete, he did all three. May his life be an example and inspiration to us all.

I just want to say that I am sorry for your lost, my sympathy is with you deeply! I was so shocked to have heard the news. my mother had an envelope that she kept for a couple of days and I am just opening it up. I thought it was a reminder about my next appointment. I was always looking forward to seeing Dr. Hastings because he was so great with my daughter C'milya. He could always get a smile out of her, but also she just wanted to play with his stethescope! I just want you to know he was the greatest pediatrician I knew and he will be greatly missed. My prayers will be with you always!

Today my son ,Kenyen, had an appointment with Palmetto Pediatrics. I was in shock to find out about Dr.Hastings. I didn't know, but I am sorry for your lost. He will be grately missed. Dr. Hastings was such a joy to have as a Pediatrician. It's very hard these days to trust many Doctors with your children but Dr. Hastings made it so easy. He truly cared about my children and was always very attentive to them. All three of my children, Chandler, Selena, and Perry are patients at Palmetto Pediatrics. Dr. Hastings was one of the biggest reasons I've stayed at that office. It's not going to be the same to walk in there and not see his smiling face. When I step foot into Palmetto Pediatrics Dr.Hastings was the first person I seen. Dr. Hastings was so kind and showed interest into my sons well being and he will be truly missed by the Boiro Family.

The Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol sends its deepest sympathy to the Hastings Family. It was a pleasure to have had Pete be a part of the WCBP. Pete was a true competitor, an outstanding person, a good lifeguard and had a smile that was infectious. The WCBP will truly miss one of its own.

I had the great pleasure to work with Dr. Pete for 6 years as his nurse at Palmetto Pediatrics. He will greatly be missed not only by me but by all the patients. He always had a smile on his face. I have many fond memories of this great man. My children will miss him. He always had a hug for me and my children. He loved his worked and his family very much. My heart goes out to Michele, Christopher, Erin, and Petey bug(as Dr. Pete would call him). My love is with each of you. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I know he is watching over me helping me to become a better nurse. All my love.

Dr. Hastings was a caring, compasionate, kind hearted, and always smiling. He was a great physician to my children. I'll never forget the hospital visit when my second child was born. I was awakened with his great sense of humor with smiles. Although, Dr. Hastings is resting in peace, we will continue our Medical care with Palmeto Pediatrics with his spirits. He will greatly be missed very dearly. My prayers and thoughts are with Michele, children, and the Hastings family. May god bless each and one of you.

My kids Aaron6, Zach3 and Katie1 have all seen Dr. Hastings since birth...My boys thought he was so "cool" and just loved to see him walk through that exam room door "Hi Guys"...At our last visit about 4 wks ago we mentioned we had seen Herbie The Love Bug, Dr Hastings just went on and on about his love of that show as a kid and it was his all time favorite, he grinned from ear to ear...As usual he went through his entire talk about my 1 year old, eating, sleeping and disipline and always ended with "youre doing a great job" I told him that our daughter was not exactly planned but now I couldnt imagine not having her, he turned to me and said "I know what you mean, I can not imagine my life without my three kids!" I am so sorry for your loss, our hearts break for you, and of course you are in our thoughts as you face this tragic and difficult time...

To the Hastings family,

Our son Daniel was one of Dr. Hastings many patients. He was not only able to care for a sick child but at the same time comfort the parents. We are honored to have been able have him in our lives. Our prayers and deepest sympathy go out to his family and friends.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Peter's family. I, Laura, attended high school with Peter, and my sister Jennifer was friends with Paige. We both have a lot of fond memories of spending time with the Hastings family. It's obvious Peter was well loved and will be missed by many.

My condolences go out to the family. I was so sorry to hear the news. I was in Pete's residency class at MUSC and enjoyed knowing him for those three years. He was a great doctor and I know he will be greatly missed by his patients and his family and friends.

I am Pete's aunt, Lois' sister. I cannot express how very, very sad we all are right now. I wish I had more memories of Pete, but since we live so far apart, I only have a few- but they are all so good! What a gift he was to so many. I am grateful for his life. He accomplished so much in so little time. My heart goes out to Michele, the kids, and to Lois and Shellie, and to Pete and Betsy Hastings.

Peter was such a great motivator and mentor to me in swimming at Woodruff High School. I was his friend Nelson's little sister so he always kept a close eye on me. I'll never forget him picking me up in his white VW Bug for 5:30am practice in the dead of winter with all the windows rolled down. He insisted that this was the ONLY way to wake up! I always admired Pete's drive and sense of humor.

All three of my children Ryan, Jordan, and Lindsay were patient's of Dr. Hasting's. Every time he entered the exam room he always had a smile on his face and that was always nice to see. He was a very caring and wonderful doctor. My children felt very comfortable being around him. He will be missed. Our trips to Palmetto Ped's will not be the same anymore. To the Hastings Family:

Dr. Hastings was one of my son's doctors since his birth 4 years ago. He had a great bedside manor and knew how to make the kids feel at ease. He mainly saw our son when he was ill with a fever or ear infection, but he was quick to calm a new mom's nerves and to assure you with his smile. As our son grew older, he loved to admire the beautiful artwork on Dr. Hastings walls and Dr. Hastings would proudly tell us who did the drawings. He will be sadly missed by us. He made the sick doctor's visits enjoyable. May God bless you and give you strenght in this time of need. You were truly blessed to have such a wonderful person in your life.

Our 19 month old daughter, Haylie, was a patient of Dr. Hastings and was scheduled to have open heart surgery today but it was canceled the day before. Her surgeon said that her echocardiogram showed figures that he couldn't explain and her heart had actually thinned, rather than thickened, which, in her condition, is pretty unheard of. He was baffled by this development and had no explanation to give us. We believe that Haylie had a guardian angel watching over her. Haylie will never remember what a great man Dr. Hastings was but we will remember the wonderful care he gave our daughter and will miss him dearly!

We were deeply sadden by the death of Dr. Hastings. He has taken care of our sons for the past 4 years and I always felt 100% better after leaving the office. He always shared a smile and made the children feel at ease, no matter how bad they felt. We feel priviledged to have known such a wonderful, caring person. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless and watch over you during this difficult time. We hope fond memories bring comfort and smiles to your family.

I had the privaledge of workin with Dr.Hasting's (cousin Pete as I called him). I can not say enough to sing his praises. I watched him daily caring for patients & my son on ocassion. Dr. Hastings has a heart of gold. There is nothing that he wouldn't do for anyone. He will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to the Hasting's family. We have truly lost a soldier in the pediatric world! I will always remember his smile and a little joke to let you know that things would be alright! I used to often ask him "when are you going to stop hanging your gym clothes on your truck in the parking lot and he would say "well, would you rather me bring them in the office?" Great sense of humor. To Mrs.Hastings and the children, keep looking up. Pete will be that sun shining down on you all smiling.

How saddened we were to learn of this tragedy. Dr. Hastings was the best, and that is why we chose him as our pediatrician. He was our hero as he so graciously came in on a Sunday morning and spent most of the day consoling us and giving us hope that our 2 week old baby would survive the meningitis he had diagnosed her with. He made all of the right decisions, and thanks to him, our little girl did survive. His smile, love of life, and love of people in general will always be remembered. To his family, know that he loved each of you very much. It was not unusual for us to see Dr. Hastings for a checkup visit and end up hearing him talk so highly of each of you!! God now has another angel to watch over us all. He was loved by many!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hastings Family. We were blessed to have such a wonderful person helping to teach us as new and first time parents how to care for our daughter Alyssa. We couldnt have asked for a kinder, more gentler soul. Dr. Hastings will be missed and thought of often.

Pete was not only a friend and colleague, but our family pediatrician for the past 8 years. Our three children loved to see him when sick or well. It was always a pleasure to see him in the office or around the Trident campus, and he was never too busy to stop and chat. Dr. Hastings was a kind, warm and gentle man that loved the care that he gave to children. He will truley be missed. Dr. Hastings cared for my first child Myles Gray. When we moved from the area he made sure that he called at least once a month to see how he was doing and that made me realize what a wonderful and caring Doctor he was. I have never known a doctor to take the time to make a long distance call to check up on a former patient. I am so glad that I had choosen him as my child's pediatrician. I strongely believe that Dr. Hastings is now one of God's Angel doing more of the great work that he has done here.

I worked at Elaine's Christian daycare and knew Christopher, Peter and Michelle. Again I am truly sorry for your families loss.

Dr. Hastings was the true measure of a man. He lived his life with such passion--passion for his work, physical fitness, his family, and those around him. I knew Dr. Hastings only through working with him at Trident. We spoke often of his love for Nassau and the Bahamas once he had learned that I was moving back here. I will remember his sense of humor. You never knew if the person on the other end of the phone was going to be Dr. Hastings or someone who sounded like him with a thick German accent. He was a caring, compassionate man who loved his work, his life and his family. This world was a better place for his having lived among us. To the family of Dr. Peter Hastings: I can recall meeting Dr. Hastings for the first time six years ago. He has displayed nothing less than care and concern towards my daughter, Alayah. Dr. Hastings was an exceptional doctor with a wonderful and caring personality. He saved my son's life when he was only 4 days old. His dedication and level of commitment to my family as he was caring for my son and me as a new mother was truly a blessing from God. Ashlen and Hunter truly loved him and would try to make up any excuse to go see him at the doctor's office. I tried to explain to Ashlen and Hunter about Dr. Hastings going to live with Jesus and their reply was "Well Mom, God needs a very special person in heaven for all the little boys and girls and babies that are in heaven.

I ask God to please be with his wife and children and continue to bless them.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. The loss of Dr. Hastings has stunned us all. He has taken care of my twin boys since their birth. Just recently, he discovered that one of them had a ruptured appendix. I feel if it wasn't for him my son may not be here. He was a wonderful doctor and he was so awesome with the kids, always addressing them and asking them questions and telling them how well they did. He always spoke to them with a smile on his face and treated each child as if they were the most important child. He shined as a husband, a father and a doctor. He will be sadly missed. The time for each of us on this world is limited; some shorter than others. When you read what Peter has accomplished and the thoughts expressed by others, it is clear he made this world a better and warmer place in his short time here. You have our deepest sympathies in these difficult times.

My daughter will miss him very much as well as miss his children's pictures that he always proudly displayed in "his" patient rooms in his office.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Hastings family. Pete and I went to high school together and he was a great friend and an inspiration to everyone whose life he touched. We'll miss you Pete.

I'm sorry to say that I never knew Dr. Hastings, though we may have crossed paths while out running in Goose Creek or might have exchanged greetings at a local road race. Please accept my sincere condolences.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Dr. Hastings. I had the great pleasure of having Dr. Hastings as my children's pediatrician. We absolutely loved him. He was always kind and gentle when the children saw him. I also work at Trident and saw him several times while working, he always had a smile on his face and a kind word. He will truly be missed.

for thirty years we had the privilege of knowing you as friend and truely our brother. peter, we watched as you grew and matured... and we learned much from you.

Dear Hastings - my deepest sympathy to all of you. Pete was such a fun, spontaneous person. I really enjoyed being around you and working out with you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hastings family. Dr. Hastings was my daughter Tabatha's doctor and was a great doctor. He will sadly be missed and Palmetto Pediatrics will never ever be the same without him.

What can I say about all the wonderful times we've had and the moments shared, especially while we all were at MUSC? I hated that Pete could not be Robert's ped. and abided by his recommendation, but will admit I swelled with pride when those I knew bragged on his expertise with their children. Pete was extraordinary in how he lived life and that smile and the twinkle in his eyes will be sorely missed.

Michele, you, the children and rest of your family are in our prayers and always in our hearts.

It is with a very heavy heart that we tell our children about Peter. They love him, and we love him. As we read over the very caring words that others have wrote, it is very easy to see just how far Peter's arms stretched. We are deeply sad, and will miss him very much. Dr. Hastings was the best doctor we have ever known. He was kind and caring. We could never find a doctor to replace him. We feel your loss and are very sadden. Even though our paths went in different directions since our days at Bucknell University, we never seemed to lose the sense of meaning of life and passion to live. Peter and Michele came to Nassau after their marriage. With both of our wives pregnant, we took them fishing for Mahi Mahi and marveled together over the wonders of the Bahamas. We then visited the Hastings in South Carolina, with both families having grown then by one child each. Even though both families had more children over the years, we kept in touch as best we could, but we know we could have all made a better effort. To Michele and the children, remembering the fond memories of Peter will help you find the "silver lining in this dark cloud" and the many other dark clouds that may follow. To me, Peter was a true person, dedicated and focused to achieve his goals, he had a wonderful sense of humour, and most of all he knew how to live for life. My deepest condolenses to Michele and the family, and please keep in contact. Our home is your home and please come visit us when you want.
