Perry "Bunny" Benton N. CHARLESTON - Perry Lavern "Bunny" Benton, age 91, formerly of North Charleston, South Carolina, passed away at home surrounded by family in Bluffton on December 23, 2023. Bunny was born in Wiggins, SC to parents, James Perry and Gladys Winnie (Bowers) Benton. Bunny is survived by his son, John Perry Benton (Katrina) of Goose Creek, SC; daughters, Leigh Anne Hardwick (Wendell) of Summerville, SC; and Lynn Foster (Thomas) of Bluffton, SC; sister, Evelyn Schaffer of Johns Island, SC; grandchildren, Jonathon, Ashleigh, Walker, Lillian, Samantha, Alexandria, and Jackson. Bunny is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jimmie Loretta (Franklin) Benton; his parents, James Perry and Gladys Winnie (Bowers) Benton; brother, James Dean Benton; and sisters, Ruby May "Mell" Snow and Margaret Nell Minshew. Retired as a welder from Charleston Naval Shipyard's Electrical Shop 26, Bunny was a member of North Charleston United Methodist Church, a graduate of Murray High School, and a volunteer with North Charleston Rescue Squad and the Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid sports fan and longtime volunteer with athletics at The Citadel and North Charleston High School, and he was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him. A visitation will be held for Bunny at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home on December 27, 2023 at 5:00-7pm. A graveside service will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens on December 28, 2023 at 11 am, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Crescent Hospice, 10 Buckingham Plantation Drive, Suite A, Bluffton, South Carolina 29910.
